What can a person do when pestered by a nuisance caller? "Just hang up!" said Illinois 13 Bell Manager S.F. Jozwiak. "Remember, you're in control of your own phone." Offering some more advice, Jozwiak counseled, "A telephone call is just as per sonal as , a face-to-face con versation. You aren't obligated to answer questions just "because the questioner sounds 'official.' Don't answer questions on the phone you wouldn't answer to a stranger on the street." Some other helpful hints o% preserving your telephone i privacy offered by Illinois Bell are: -Always find lout who is calling: the person's name and the company $e~~7>r she represents. --If the caller is a salesman marketing a product you don't want, say so quickly. If you're not sure whether you want it, ask the salesman to send you a letter. -If you don't recognize the name of the company con ducting a survey, offer to call back or ask the caller to call you again. Then check out the firm with the Better Business Bureau or the Chamber of Commerce. -Always use the telephone on your terms, not those of the caller. Don't talk to anyone unless you want to. -Don't identify yourself unless the caller has identified himself. If he won't answer the questions, "What number did you call?" or "Who do you want?" hang up. -Instruct your children (and babysitters) never to talk on the phone to someone they don't positively recognize. An in nocent comment like "Daddy's out of town", could be all the information a burglar needs. -If it's the kind of caller who remains silent after your an swer, hang up immediately He may be trying to see if you will get irritated. Don't give him the satisfaction. -If a caller makes any ob scene or suggestive remark, hang up immediately. He'd like nothing better than for you to demand who he is, or ask Enthusiasm is increasing about the district 15 Summer School program. "We're willing to invest a great deal of time, money and equipment to preserve your telephone privacy. And the best way to do that is to get some well publicized convictions. The penalties are stiff - up to six months in jail and up to $500 in fines." Jozwiak added, "We're concerned when a telephone customer receives annoying calls, and we're out to stop this source of irritation. Home gardeners have discovered that there is something really different for their garden, Fi Hybrid Carefree Geraniums. These geraniums aren't like any other you've grown. They bloom midseason and last right up through late hard frost. Carefrees come from Fi Hybrid seed, so they are more disease free. Anybody who has grown regular geraniums late in the season knows how disease can wither regular geraniums. Carefrees are the most floriferous geraniums ever. Planted in full sun (where they should be) they will grow eight or more blooms at one time. And since Carefrees are base- branching, they require no pinching to get more branches. Really Carefree! For the most in a really lovely garden this summer, stop in for Carefrees.
