Their class motto is, "A Winner Quits and a Quitter Never Wins". The class flower is the yellow tea rose and the class colors are black and gold. Grand jurors from McHenry for the term that opened Monday are Math P. Freund and A.H. Watson. One of the most popular places in McHenry this sum­ mer promises to be the Auto Inn at the corner of Green and Pearl streets, conducted by Miss Rose Worts. If rumors mean anything, the McHenry locals will have a new catcher behind the plate hereafter. Kirk Schroeder is supposed to have turned in his suit. Both Pfannenstill and Arnie Anderson have had some experience behind the bat and either may be pressed into service. In the event that An­ derson gets the assignment, Kernel Stof el will most likely play third. Quite a number of relatives and friends from Johnsburg and McHenry attended a shower in honor of Miss Magdeline Krift, a bride-to-be, at Winter Gardens near New Munster, Wis. A new business place was opened on Green street Monday of this week by Lee Kercher, in his own building. It has been named "My Place". A pretty wedding was solemnized at St. Patrick's church, May 23, when Miss Madelyn Wirtz and Mr. Eugene Meyrs of Chicago, were united in marriage at a nuptial Mass with Father O'Rourke officiating. Sixty-eight babies were entered in the baby conference at the Methodist church at Woodstock with Ferol Martin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Martin, receiving grand prize. A junior choir of about twenty members has been organized at St. Patrick's church under the direction of Miss Dorothy Knox. MX. Schoenholtz and A.J. Wirtz, local scoutmasters, attended the county meeting at Woodstock. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss plans for a Scout summer camp and the district jamboree to be held at Batavia. Harry Townsend has been under the doctor's care with torn ligaments in his leg received while playing ball. Mrs. F.J. Aicher returned home from Presbyterian hospital in Chicago, where she has been receiving treatment. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of May 27, 1948) Sixty-five seniors of M.C.H.S. will receive their diplomas May 30 in the high school auditorium. Miss Mercedes R. Stilling of Richmond road is one of sixty- five students who will receive their diplomas at com­ mencement services at St. Anthony's Hospital School of Nursing held at the Rockford theatre May 27. Miss Stilling was honored recently when she was selected May queen from among the girls in her class. A short illness ended in death last week for Mrs. Georgianna Ward, 80 years old, who passed away^t the Woodstock hospital May 20. Willian} Spoehr and son, Russ, have purchased^ the Fireside tavern on Route 31, Ringwood. from Gus Caristrand. A new business will open in McHenrv today to be known as Pantry Delicacies, Inc., on Riverside drive. Owners are George W. O'Mally and W.R. Comes. Rev. Edward Coakley, chaplain of St. Joseph's hospital, Aurora, has been named pastor of St. Patrick's parish, McHenry. Rev. William Regrrier of Aurora, recently ordained to the priesthood, will come to McHenry as Fr. Coakley's assistant. Miss Dorothy Jones of Wonder Lake became the bride of Mr. Urban Bauer of Ringwood in a lovely service which took place on May 22 in the rectory of St. Peter's church, Spring Grove. The double ring service was per­ formed by Rev. John Dalelden. Don Kingston, his Hammond organ and his Vibrachord, will entertain beginning May 29, at the Villa Hotel resort at Pistakee Bay. . , Recently constructed V.F.W. clubhouse will be open to the public May 30, when dedication services will be held. The many friends of Rev. Frank J. Miller, former assistant pastor of St. Mary's church here, and now pastor of St. Ann's parish in Warren, 111, has been named director of the Catholic Resettlement com­ mittee for the diocese of Rock- ford. Louis Brockman, 50 years old, a resident of Crockett's subdivision, died suddenly Saturday while waiting on a customer at Fitzgerald's Men's shop and Local Cleaners, Inc., in Fox Lake. He was manager of the store which is owned by Homer Fitzgerald of McHenry. The Peter H. Freunds have moved from Elm street to the former Joe Frett place on Riverside drive which they recently purchased. At a lovely wedding service solemnized May 15 at St. John's Lutheran church, Woodstock, Miss Dolores Krien of Lily Lake became the bride of Mr. John Musser, Jr., of Woodstock. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ross of Wonder Lake, celebrated their thirtieth wedding anniversary last Sunday when they en­ tertained several guests. Mrs. Ida Kreutzer was guest of honor at a family gathering held last Sunday in the William Kreutzer home, the occasion being her birthday an­ niversary. Dording has been appointed pastor of St. Marian Central Ranks High In Math Contest Marian Central Catholic high school recently received word that it has been awarded a seventh place rating in the 1973 John the Baptist church, Johnsburg. Father Dording, who replaces the late Father- Joseph Blitsch, has been pastor of St. Catherine's, Aurora. One of the biggest attractions on Fiesta day this year will be the appearance of the United States Air Force Academy drum and bugle corps of Colorado. During the Spring and Fall months this year, 975 grade and junior high pupils from the Bellwood and Oak Park school system will spend some time at Camp Duncan, where classes will be conducted in the out of doors. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Wirfs . are proud parents of a son, Craig Michael, born May 25 at McHenry hospital. McHenry shoppers are urged to take advantage of the Sweepstakes Memorial day double bonus in twenty par­ ticipating stores for which the winners will be drawn June 3. For the past eight weeks, $50 in certificates have been presented weekly to a winner in one of these stores. However, as a special holiday in­ ducement to shoppers, this figure has been doubled to $100 for the one week. Mrs. Alex Justen presented a check for $2,700 to Anthony Corcoran, administrator of. the McHenry Hospital association. The money represents proceeds from last year's art fair which is sponsored an­ nually by the hospital auxiliary. On May 23, sixteen teachers who have taught ten years or longer in District 15, honored at a dinner held in Wilmot, Wis., one of their number, Mrs. Velma Douglas, who is retiring. Sandy Spohr of Pistakee Bay has been awarded the Kannert foundation scholarship, a four- »r scholarship based on scholastic ability. Sandy is a member of the June graduating class and will attend Rosary College for Women in the fall. A surprise mock airplane crash south of McHenry last Thursday provided a fine test for civil defense in the com­ munity and pointed up the phases of the local program which must be developed further. Director John Shay described the test known of­ ficially as SARCAP, as suc­ cessful. The public was alerted to the mock disaster by the sound of the fire siren as they would be in the event of an actual crash. The Island Lake Lions club brings the Mills Brothers Three Ring circus to that community for two performances May 31. A group of camels, llamas and a pony, trained and presented by Capt. John Herriott, is one of the featured acts.
