0 \s DIVOTS and DOLLS By Espar Oja The lady golfers are doing only fairly well in harnessing their impatience to start the season. In spite of the bad» weather last Tuesday (5-8) a hopeful group gathered, and all but two went other ways - thanks to the weather. Only Letty Busscher and Floss O'Connell could not be stopped and rowed their way around the course. However, May 15 was a beautiful day and the turnout was good. The planned activities for the summer are a bit different than otheii years - several days on the schedule are departures jrom the usual Among other things, we^hope to encourage our members' daughters to try our favorite game and discover how much fun Mom and Dad and Brother have been having. More on this later. Last year we had a division of players who preferred playing nine holes rather than the full eighteen. Such enthusiasm! So this year - who are the im patient ones to get started? The "nine holers" of course. By the first of June we will have practiced a bit and will be into serious play. Hope to have great accomplishments to report this summer! 1973 American Legion Baseball Schedule Joe Stanek, Manager 385-5055 Sunday games start at 2 o'clock Weekday games start at & o'clock > FIRST ROUND Sunday, June 10 - Lake-in- the-Hills at McHenry Wednesday, June 14 - Har vard at McHenry Sunday, June 17 - McHenry at Algonquin Wednesday, June 20 - McHenry at Wonder Lake Sunday, June 24 - Woodstock at McHenry Wednesday, June 27 - McHenry at Crystal Lake Sunday, July 1 - Cary at McHenry District Tournament - July 14 and 15. Wastewater Facilities Opposed in New Bill State Senator Jack Schaffer (R-Cary) said this week he will join in sponsorship of a bill to prevent the establishment of wastewater land treatment facilities and movement of wastewater across county lines without prior approval from the county board of supervisors. Schaffer said the bill is directed at the Chicago Metropolitan Sanitary district, which is considering the establishment of land treat ment sites in downstate areas as a means of economically alleviating the present sewage 1971; Kevin Concannon- Frank Gosser, 880 Relay, 1:32 7. 1966; Tom Brankey-Mike Westphal and Jim Fogarty- Mike Fogarty, Mile Relay, 3:34.0. 1971; Kevin Concannon- Frank Gosser and Bruce Beiers-John Brda, 440 Relay, 44.9. disposal problem in the Chicago metropolitan area. He said, "I realize the Sanitary district has a difficult situation on its hands in terms of eliminating waste, and I would support most measures to help them. But the establish ment of land wastewater treatment facilities, much as it would help the Sanitary district and the people of Chicago, is not a particularly appealing thought to those who would have to live near them " Schaffer added, "It simply would not be fair to permit the establishment of these sewage disposal systems without first getting the consent of those affected. And that can best be done through a vote of the county board of supervisors. He said McHenry county has been mentioned as a possible site for development of a land treatment facility, and therefore he felt compelled to join in sponsorship of the bill. The land treatment system was one of five alternatives defined in a study for the Chicago Metropolitan Sanitary district for the elimination of sewage. Under the plan, 80,000 acres of farmland outside Cook county would be acquired,- including 12,000 acres for conversion to sludge drying fields and lagoons, and 30,000 acres to be fitted with effluent spreading pipes and drain tiles for irrigation. Besides requiring county board approval for either construction of a treatment facility or the movement of waste, the bill also stipulates that if the board approves such action, county residents can still bar it by holding a public referendum.
