Alternate Highway Plan For Public Evaluation The Regional Transportation and Planning board (RTPB) has announced that alternative plans for highways and mass transportation for northeastern Illinois and northwestern In diana will be presented for public evaluation in the next three weeks. The views of public officials and citizens, as expressed on a questionnaire, will be utilized by the RTPB in the preparation of the Regional Comprehensive Transportation plan. The RTPB will hold a series of four two-day exhibits at which citizens and public of ficials can view four alter native plans and discuss their implications with members of the planning staff. The public will be invited to fill out questionnaires to record their opinions about priorities for regional transportation planning and comment on the alternative plans: Alternative A provides for those highway corridors which are most likely to exist by 1995 given present conditions and trends. A network of balanced circumferential bus and rapid transit additions would be coordinated with radial rail and local bus service. Alternative B calls for the greatest increase of highway facilities with minimal rapid transit additions. The present highway network would be increased by three peripheral and two diagonal routes. An increase in circumferential bus routes would coordinate ser vice with the radial rail system. Alternative C places em phasis on extensive rapid transit additions throughout the region with minimal highway development. Circumferential bus service would be related to an extended radial rail net work. Alternative D affords the maximum development of rapid transit facilities in the region's more highly congested core plus western peripheral Two Programs Scheduled For Gems, Minerals "Safety Pays" is a program of interest to all anticipating a drivers' test in the near future and also for those desiring to reinforce round trip safe driving habits.
