JUNE K 1973 Coach Tom Hubert's fresh man baseball team finished out the season by defeating Woodstock 10 to 0. Billy Rowe, freshman pitcher, hurled a no- hitter against the young Streaks. This brought the season record of the freshmen to 11 wins and 10 losses. The team started off winning 4 of the first five games. They played well and hit the ball consistently. Then came Easter vacation and 14 games in 13 days. Two were eventually cancelled. The boys did not practice during this time and only 4 times since this period of time. This was caused by weather and lack of a practice area close to school. With the practice area being so far from school we could not go there when the weather looked like rain because of tran sportation problems. These factors caused the team to go downhill and win only 1 of the last 6 games. Take Her Over The Threshold And On To A Secure Future Financial Security can make your new life happier. There were nine children in our family and we lived on a farm three miles from town. We all had\to work as soon as we were big/enough to do anything. Our working day was from sunrise until dark. When I had a chance to work for another farmer, I got 50 cents a day. Some of the high lights that I remember best are: seeing my first automobile (a Ford Tin Lizzie); sitting out on our front porch and seeing "Hal- ley's Comet." It was high in the western sky and didn't seem to move, and it looked like a Roman candle on the Fourth of July, with its fiery tail behind it. I also re member the San Francisco earth quake of 1906. There were no radios yet, only artists' drawings in the papers. When the Titanic went down, it was a cold April day and we felt bad about all the folks that went down with it When the circus came to town, we got down to it while it was still daylight to help water the elephants and get a pass into the "big show." Our only music was a phonograph with its big horn. By Dick Rabbitt Ev Klapperich, sophomOre sprinter on Coach Wally Scott's track team, led the cindermen with a total of 185 pts. This breaks the record held by George Koch set in 1964. The young dashman has an outstanding season. He won the 100 and 220 in all dual meets. He also won the Oswego Relays, the county Frosh-Soph and Varsity. He was the Dundee Invitational champ. He placed second in the Batavia Relays, but later avenged that defeat in the McHenry Relays. To top off the season he was the winner of the district meet in the 100 yd dash at Prospect and qualified for the state finals at Champaign. He was presented with the Track Trophy at the annual Track Banquet held on Wed nesday at West campus.
