FREUND Open House For George Freunds On Anniversary An open house will be held at the American Legion home, McHenry, Saturday, June 9, honoring Mr. and Mrs. George P. Freund of 1404 N. Green street, on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary. The event, hosted by their children and grandchildren, will begin at 8 p.m. Friends and relatives are invited to join the couple on this memorable occasion. Mary Meyer and George P. Freund were married June 6, 1923, in St. Mary's Catholic church, McHenry, by the late Msgr. C.S. Nix. They have resided locally all their married lifer Mr. Freund served first as alderman and later for several terms as mayor. He is president emeritus of McHenry hospital. Memberships include the Catholic Order of Foresters, which he formerly served as financial secretary, and life membership in the Kiwanis club of McHenry. For fifty years he served as secretary of the C.O.F. bowling league. For the past thirty-five years Mr. Freund has engaged in the farm equipment business which bears his name. Miss Tomlinson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Tomlinson of 805 Columbus, McHenry, and Mr. Rupp is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Rupp, Jr., of 1312 Lakeview, McHenry. A special arrangement of "The Wedding Song" was presented by Corrine Wilhelm and Cindy Conrad. The bride chose a Victorian gown fashioned of white satapeau designed with a high neckline, full and wide cuffed Victorian sleeves, fitted bodice, hi-rise waistline and a softly gathered A-line silhouette skirt ending in a flounce hemline which flowed to a chapel length train. The gown was enhanced with chantilly motifs and beribboned Venice lace. For sentiment, the bride carried a handkerchief belonging to the bridegroom's mother, which she carried down the aisle twenty-three years ago. Karen Tomlinson attended The couple has three sons, George M. of Wonder Lake, James C. and Robert L., both of McHenry; also fourteen grandchildren. Miss Christian Married Friday To WilburHaak In a simple ceremony per formed by the Rev. Bornemann at St. John's Lutheran church in Algonquin Friday, May 25, at 6:30 p.m. Miss Deborah Christian, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Christian of 420 Summit, Algonquin, exchanged nuptial vows with Wilbur J. Haak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur L. Haak, 7215 Algonquin road, Wonder Lake. The lovely bride wore ^ full length purple gown, trimmed in white lace, with a purple and white corsage. Attending the bride as matron of honor was Mrs. Terry (Janet) Haak. She was attired in a full length red and white gown. Terry Haak was best man for his brother. For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Christian chose a street length dress of light beige with gold trim. Mrs. Haak wore a full length dress of pale green. After the ceremony, a buffet supper was served at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Christian. Attending the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Duane Haak and Douglas Christian. United in marriage were Miss Dierdre Jill Levesque of 1500 Schiller, Edwardsville, 111., and Dr. Charles E. Nelson, PhD., of 300 S. Main street, also of Edwardsville. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.R. (Jake) Levesque of 3011 N. Spring road, McCullom Lake. Her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Nelson of Van couver, Wash. The young couple will make their home at 300 S. Main street, Edwardsville, where he is professor of Instructional Technology and graduate advisor, S.I.U., Edwardsville. The McHenry Senior Citizens club kitchen band presented a program Wednesday evening, May 23 for the faculty-wives of School District 155 at Cary- Grove high school. It was a very enthusiastic audience, and the band received a wonderful ovation at the end of the program. Much interest was shown in the homemade instruments the kitchen band uses and the ladies were unable to un derstand how such beautiful music came from such equipment. Refreshments were served and a very enjoyable social hour followed. The kitchen band is receiving many requests for programs. As soon as the schedule is completed, confirmations will be made. Following -the services, a reception for 170 friends and relatives was held at the McHenrv American Legion hall. Upon their return from a wedding trip to Wisconsin, the newlyweds plan to make their home at 7107 Wainwright, Wonder Lake. Both young people are graduates of M.C.H.S. Local Youth To Illinois 4-H Week Twenty-six McHenry county youth Will join some 1,200 Illinois 4-H members on the University of Illinois Campus, June 11-13 for the 1973 State 4-H Week. "4-H - The Common Bond", this year's theme, will be carried out by speakers and at "awareness sessions". Opening speaker, Art Hoist, is a National Football league official and mixes his thought- provoking speeches with his experiences on and off the football field. Mrs. Joy Dervall Johnson, author, lecturer and staff member of the Jane Adams Graduate School of Social Work at the Chicago Circle campus, will add to the theme by generating thoughts for discussion groups and question answer sessions. Other happenings during the three-day program include the "awareness programs" - a combination of career-special interest sessions; and recreation - get acquainted mixer, barbecue, and a dance. McHenry county 4-H members who will attend include Jane Eppel, Colleen Godina, Diane Muskovin, Lisa Newport and Joy Vyduna, McHenry; Ellen Gardner of Solon Mills and Denise Winn, Richmond. Youth Parade To Be Feature Of Milk Day H a r v a r d ' s t r a d i t i o n a l ceremony to honor the dairy industry officially starts with the youth parade slated for,' p.m. Friday, June 1. ( Featured will be miniature conveyances from doll buggies to wagons covered with bright paper, carrying costumed youngsters anxious to tell the Milk Day tale. A little prince and princess will be selected, who will ride in the "big" parade, when the real fun starts Saturday, June 2. The Milk Day committee chairman coordinating this prelude to a weekend of ex citement is Charles Reid. The 1972 reigning prince, P a t r i c k S c h u m a c k e r , Algonquin, and the reigning princess, Patricia Ann Durkee, Harvard, will lead the parade. MR. AND MRS. University Women Will Meet In City The June meeting of the American Association of University Women will be a luncheon held on Saturday, June 2, at the McHenry Country club at 12:30 p.m. The speaker for the afternoon will be David J. Klasing, director of the Department of Court Services for the 19th Judicial circuit, McHenry county. Mr. Klasing will talk on "Juvenile Justice - Proposed Group Home and Detention Facility for McHenry County." The speaker's background includes an AB degree, plus Bachelor of Divinity, from Wheaton college. He has, in addition, had teacher's cer tification and guidance and counseling training. His ex perience includes twenty-two years as a minister and jobs as assistant probation officer and high school teacher. In his present position there are eleven full time case workers under his jurisdiction. Mrs. Pat Seiling is chair woman of the afternoon program. Glazed Onions 18 medium-sized onions 8 cups boiling water 2 teaspoons salt 4 tablespoons batter, melted 3 tablespoons sugar Peel onions and cook, un covered, in boiling water to which teaspoons salt have been added, for 20 minutes. Drain. Put in baking dish. Mix melted butter, sugar and re maining Vi teaspoon salt to gether. Pour over onions. Bake, uncovered, in moderate oven (350°F.) % hour, or un til glazed and lightly browned. Baste onions frequently with butter mixture during baking. Serves 6.
