Although the team had hoped to end the season more successfully, there is no question as to the abundance of enthusiasm carried on by the coach and players. The team finished with an overall 3-15, winning against Aurora (3-2), Elgin and Oakton (7-3). Mike ^Rogers, one of the teams most outstanding players, was selected to the Skyway Community College Conference All-League Team as a second baseman. Rogers finished with a batting average of .333, along with 12 stolen bases. 2 triples and one home run. \l Gould received Honorable Mention to the Skyway All- League Team as a third baseman. Gould also con tributed fine work with a hatting average of .283. Much can also be said about the eight batgirls who volun teered their services in helping the team to have an all-around better season. At most of the Raines one could see them in (heir flashing white hotpants and striped shirts keeping score, running out td get the bats, retrieving foul balls and hacking the team up whole - heartedly. Much gratitude is bestowed upon these girls in presenting their entusiasm and school spirit. EARL WALSH I Hear SPORTS EDITOR J Ed Herrmann's injury left the team with a good field -- no hit catcher. At full strength, we think the Sox can go on to win. However, we think some strength will have to be added before the June 15th trading deadline gets away. After the White Sox disastrous trip to Milwaukee and the recent winning habits of the Cubs, it might be best to save the following contribution for another time. But. let's live dangerously and print it: BALLAD OF THE WHITE SOX (tune to Glory, Glory, Hallelujah) The Cubs are on the bottom, and the SOX are on the top. The SOX are on the top, and the Cubs will always flop. We shall win the world series, and nothing will make us stop. The SOX go marching on!! refrain Holy Cow we'll be the Cham pions, Holy Cow we'll be the Cham pions, , Holy Cow we'll be the Cham pions. Our SOX are on the top! --From Don Smith Family Johnsburg but just look at the list of in juries each team has to face. The manager may have 25 men on his squad, but let a key player land on the disabled list and the team suffers. Of course, other teams have injury problems. We just happen to be more concerned about the Sox getting into the World Series -- with the Cubs! The St. Loois Cardinals had some injuries early in the season that left them hopeless. Now they are back in shape and have won 14 out of their last 15 games. Schools close this week for the summer vacation. Whee we were in school, the kidsdap and whooped like Indians on that first dav of "Freedom". Hamstring muscle pulls are as common as a headache with baseball players. At grade school age. we took5 off our shoes and left them off for the summer except for going to church on Sunday. Those Sunday shoes were enough penance to last all week. They told us our Sox were deep in talent this year. Then Henderson went on the disabled list and they had to go to the minors for a replacement. Orta went out and second base became a problem. Carlos May has one of those hamstrings, but is used now as a designated hitter. Bill DeVries came in to tell us he had "Red" Winkel converted to the Cubs. If we believed that, he'd tell us another one. Gene Morenz figures the Sox had too much beer and brat- wurst up there in Milwaukee. The Junior Joe Etten went up HALLELUJAH! ^Baseball isn't considered as rough a game as some others, Sales & Service BR00KW00D GARDEN CENTER 4505 W.
