Jim Mulvenna was the starting and losing pitcher Rockford scored 2 in the second inning on 2 walks and a double by Hanson. Johnsburg scored one run in the third as Joe Dehn's single drove in Mulvenna, who had walked. In the Rockford 3rd. 10 men batted as five runs scored. Mulvenna was then relieved by Ed Mack and Dan Sompel who shut out Rockford the rest of the way. The Tigers rallied in the 5th by scoring 3 runs. Mulvenna singled, George walked, and Joe Dehn got his second hit, driving in a run. Ron Miller then singled, driving in the rest of the Tiger runs. Harry May had 3 hits for the Tigers and Dehn had 2 hits and 2 RBI's. On Sunday, June 3rd, the Tigers opened up their con­ ference season bv trouncing Elgin 16-7, at Johnsburg. Rogers, a freshman,, had an outstanding year for the Scots. He batted .333 with 26 hits, including 2 doubles, three triples and one homerun. Rogers led MCC in every of­ fensive area except runs batted in. He also led the Skyway Conference in stolen bases with 12. Rogers is the son of Mr and Mrs. John Rogers of McHenry. The book shows hours of work, a depth of character, and some real gems that could help persons of any age. The MCHS Cross Country boys have posted the following record from 1968 to 1972: 138 wins, 17 losses, 1 tie. A record like that shows more than good lungs and strong legs. Motivation, sacrifice and desire had to be a part of the record. On the cover of the book we find these: "Fight for it--ifyouwanttobe better!" "The real measure oL an athlete is not what he is-but what he could be!" "Life's battles don't always go to the strongest and fastest man-But, sooner or later, the man who wins-is the man who thinks he can." Yep. That's a real good book. The McHenry Country Club ladies finally began their of­ ficial games program on Tuesday, June 5, even though the sudden downpour caught them between the 11th and eighteenth holes and halted play for an hour or so. Dren­ ched as they were, they finished the first of four rounds of Match Play undaunted. We will be naming our champs in this event before long. In Class A Millie Leisten faced Carol Cooney and on hole No 1. Millie proceeded to chip in her shot to the cup. So Carol met the challenge and did The summer swimming instruction classes conducted by the Lake Region YMCA will begin on June 12, June 26 and July 10. All summer classes are conducted in the clear, heated pool of Thunderbird Farm 6ft. US Route 14 and Three Oaks Road, west of Cary. Each two-week session on instructional swims will meet on Tuesday through Friday for a total of eight days. The June 26 session will be held on Tuesday through Friday during the first week and on Monday. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday during the second week. There are classes for 4 through 17 year old girls and boys. The National YMCA Aquatic Program is followed for all instructional classes. Beginners classes are scheudled for Tiny Tots who are from 4 thru 6 years old, likewisetotiethe hole. Later on Millie repeated the per formance on No. 5. There is one instructor for every six tiny tots and one instructor for every eight youth. Deep water classes are scheduled for youth seven years old and up according to their abilities. From 10:10 tQ .11:05 a.m. there will be a class for Minnows and a class for Flying Fish. From 11:05 to noon there will be a class for Fish and a class for Shark. From noon to 12:55 there will be another class for minnows. There is an instructor for every ten deep-water students. The Lake Region YMCA office is at 95 N. Grant Street in Crystal Lake. Chain O'Lakes Dog Show At Grayslake Sunday, June 17 Dogs will "strut their stuff" on Sunday, June 17. 1973 at the Lake County Fairgrounds, Routes 120 & 45, Grayslake, when the Chain O'Lakes Kennel Club holds its 23rd Annual All Breed Dog Show from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Over 2,000 canines, representing over 100 breeds - from all over the United States, are expected to be entered in the Show, with each entrant hoping to attain the goal of Best In Show. The Chain O'Lakes Kennel Club contributes part of the proceeds of the show for a yearly scholarship to a veterinary sludent at the University of Illinois and again this past year made a sub­ stantial contribution to Cornell U n i v e r s i t y R e s e a r c h Laboratory for Disease of Dogs.
