<1 West Shore Beach CONNIE SCHMIDT 385-7841 Recycling Needs Greater Participation Help! Have you been saving your bottles and cans? New discoveries from the McHenry County Defenders has brought us the acceptance of pop top cans and jar lids. However, there are two things to remember. First the cans must be crushed at home. Secondly, the all aluminum cans must be separated from the tin ones. You can distinguish the aluminum cans from the tin cans with only aluminum tops by looking for the lack of a seam on the side of the can. All jar lids can be brought to be recycled also if all rubber or plastic rings and paper covers are removed. We will again be collecting from the subdivision the week before our drive at the McHenry market place on June 30. Last month 2,700 lbs. of glass was collected and 810 lbs. of tin. This is about maybe 2 percent-4percent of the entire area. In comparison Crystal Lake has collected 11,500 lbs. of glass last month. Other com munities such as Algonquin, Cary and Carpentersville are also participating. Too many of us do not realize the im portance of saving wastes and the potential of recycling. Bring any material which in cludes bundled newspapers, magazines or cardboard to 5407 Highland Drive before June 30 or come to the McHenry Market Place on the last Saturday. We need volunteers to help. If you could set one or two hours aside on that day please call me. WOMEN'S AUXILIARY The West Shore Beach Women's auxiliary held its monthly meeting at Marie Wegners on June 7. The ladies enjoyed each other's company and conversation. Those who attended were: Martha Dignan, Erna Piatt, Ann Garrelts, Grace Latimer, Pat Hartmann, Lorraine Hagen, Rita Perry and Virginia Scharlow. Pat Bitterman stopped by to bring some refreshment and Martha Dignan won the evening's at tendance award. Next month let's all bring a new friend! GRADUATED Mr. and Mrs. Thomas KetchUm attended the graduation of their son, Randy Wienrich from Parkland school on June 7. Randy was thoroughly impressed with the ceremony and will have fond memories of the happy oc casion. v , BICYCLES ARE IN Have you been aware of the recent trend of bicycling? Many people old and young have begun to travel for fitness and fun with great vigro. Our own subdivision brought Lorraine Hagen and her daughter LaVonne Ketchum to join the group. They can be seen pumping steadily down the roads with a child on each carrier seat. Shawn and Shari think mom and grandma are just great fun! NEW RESIDENTS? Anyone who has recently moved into the subdivision is asked to please call me. This includes those renting as well as permanent residents. We would like to introduce you to the community and help you become acquainted with the area and its functions. PERSONALS Mrs. Marie Wegner's son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Wegner, enjoyed a week long stay with mom. Also Mrs. Wegner's niece and her hsuband, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cappaert, stopped in from Wisconsin to lunch with the family last week. Paul Wienrich completed the school year at East Campus with A's and B's and is looking forward to attending West.
