"We want to do our utmost to avoid a cutback in the services we provide the handicapped. We want to maintain this service as a community con cept rather than a setback to the institutionalized concept," he explained. Rohlwing is hopeful that the current funding from the county government raised through the special tax citizens approved a few years ago will be maintained and possibly increased. About one-third of the total budget has come from the state and national govern ments in the past few years. County funds and donations are a prime source of income along with payment from patients able to pay and payment from companies who 'i are served by the clients at^ Pioneer center, the facility* operated for adult han dicapped. Besides the rehabilitation center, the McHenry County Association for the Retarded finances and supervises a Day Care center for children 3-16 who are so severely han dicapped they cannot attend school in the Special Education district program. A new service begun last month is called a Community Living facility, providing a twenty-four-hour-a-day facility for handicapped adults with the capacity to receive care with the hope they will be able to become more independent in their living and working relationships. The McHenry County Association for the Retarded board hopes to raise a total of $15.(MM) through a series of benefits. Further information on this benefit June 24 and other aspects of the associations's service may be obtained by calling the Pioneer center office. NEW TEACHERS JOIN MONTINI SCHOOL SYSTEM (Continued from page 1) freezers and ovens installed in their buildings. The frozen dinners are stocked in the school and someone must take a count each day and heat up the dinners. The price of the dinners would go from 40 to 50 cents per pupil. Montini school has no room for such facilities and since there is so little in terest, the program will not be carried. However, milk will be made available at a small price for children desiring to have it with their lunches. Revised parish assessments indicating the $10,000 reduction for each parish were approved by the board. Tony Knor, president of the Montini Parents association, reported that the organization will attempt to help alleviate the $20,000 reduction in the school budget caused by decreased assessments. However, he would not commit the organization to a dollar figure. He mentioned that attendance at the fund raising project has fallen off recently, which is normal during the summer months. Knor also noted that volunteer workers are needed to help run the program and serve refresh ments. Anyone desiring further information should contact him. The board members ex pressed their gratitude to MPA for its enthusiasm and the excellent job it has done for the school during the past year. A vote of commendation was given to Tony Pintozzi, Henry Kenyon, Ted Pitzen, Vi Herkes and Elsie Winkel for their dedication and service in the past years on the Montini , school board. Pintozzi, Kenyon and Mrs. Herkes' terms expire and Pitzen and Mrs. Winkel tendered their resignations. It was announced that Mrs. Herkes has accepted reap pointment and Paul Wember will replace Pintozzi from St. Patrick's parish. St. Mary's parish has two appointments and one elected position to fill. Mrs. Robert L. (Renee) Freund has been appointed to fill one vacancy ancl the other two positions will be filled before the July meeting. At that time, new members will be installed and election of officers will take place. The next meeting of the board will be held Monday, July 9, at 8 p.m. in St. Patrick's church hall. Lloyd Ellis had his name drawn at the Lions club which I recently addressed. But notice the clever strategy employed by this club. For Lloyd's wife actually was sent the weekly jackpot which he won. Urge your husbands to attend all such service men's ^organizations for they function much as ecumenical "Home Missionary Societies." By - George W. Crane, Ph. D., M.D. CASE L-582: Lloyd Ellis belongs to a Lions club. And he was winner of the jackpot when 1 recently ad dressed his organization. "Dr. Crane," its chairman informed me, "we have a custom of collecting a dime from each member at our meetings. "Then we have a drawing to see who is the lucky winner of this pot "If a name is picked of a member who is present, then we award the money from the jackpot to his wife. "We mail it to her with a little note saying that because her husband was present at our Lions club meeting and had his name selected by chance, she is the recipient of the weekly jackpot. "But if a member is not present when his name is drawn, we also send a little note to his wife, telling her that she would have been the recipient of $5 (or whatever the jackpot totals that week), except that BIG BAND SINGER TO APPEAR ON CITY PROGRAM (Continued from page 1) WGN-TV show, Dave Garroway and Mike Douglas shows. "Dr. Crane, this prods the wives into making sure their husbands show up for all meetings. Not bad?" PSYCHOLOGY WORKS Yes. that is excellent strategy. Instead of grumbling because her husband leaves home for the Lions club dinner (or luncheon), the wives are more likely to urge him to attend. For it- may mean money in their pocket. If a club member is not present the day his name is drawn, then the money ac cumulates for the next week. "Dr. Crane," the chairman added, "we'll ask you to do the drawing today." So I reached into the box that held little plastic capsules, each of which contained a slip of paper with a Lions club member's name thereon. And the capsule 1 lifted out contained the name of Lloyd Ellis, so his wife, Margaret, got the jackpot. Throughout my many years of lecturing I have often been invited to address the various service men's clubs. And they represent an unique innovation in social service, starting with Rotary (1905), Boy Scouts (1910), Kiwanis (1915), Lions (1917), Optimist (1919) and Civitan (1920). Never in all the course of human history have as many c o n s t r u c t i v e m a l e organizations been created as in this 16-year span from 1905 to 1920. And the members of these organizations form a "cultural senate" of their community, for they are drawn from all trades and professions, as well as the various churches. In fact, these clubs function much as an in terdenominational "Home Missionary Society!" For they render altruistic aid to crippled kiddies via crutches for polio .vUUims, eye glasses for tho^e who need them, plus summet- camps for un derprivileged city youngsters. Roger C. Beck.- district director of the Internal Revenue Service for Northern Illinois, has announced that more Chicago area- Ford and General Motors Dealers are rolling back auto parts and accessory prices by $527,741. The rollbacks are the latest results of a national IRS Stabilization survey of auto dealers. In this survey the Chicago District Internal Revenue Service has contacted In the churches, we find women banded together in missionary societies, which have rendered superb aid to deprived people at home and abroad. But these men's service clubs do the same, except they are an ecumenical or inter-faith group, usually meeting every week for a jolly luncheon. They stress patriotism and our "free enterprise" system, so they are also an effective bulwark of our great Republic. May their numbers increase! And this jackpot strategy will help zoom attendance! 177 Ford dealers. To date, 318 General Motors dealers or 88 percent have been found to be in violation. Ford dealers in violation number 181 or 74 percent of those contacted. Follow-up investigations are continuing on more Ford and General Motors dealers; and a similar survey of Chrysler and American Motors dealers is also anticipated. The survey shows that dealers repriced inventory items when Ford and General Motors increased prices in December. 1971, and January, 1972. Under the Economic Stabilization regulations, dealers are not allowed to reprice inventory items to reflect higher prices for new purchases. Supplies in in- verjgfyy are required to be sold befPFprices can be increased. Dealers are required to return the over-charged amount to the marketplace by discounting current sales of parts or ac cessories.
