There was a class given on safe boating at 8 p.m. to the members of the Sunrise Ridge Boat club and their guests. The purpose of the class was to introduce to the owners and operators of pleasure craft, safety requirements and safe practices in the operation and navigation of their boats. Pleasure boating as a family sport is growing in popularity with each passing day. American families in ever increasing numbers are tur ning to the water for their recreation. They find that boating is one of the few out door sports that can be enjoyed as a family. The secret of boating safety is keeping out of trouble rather tha^n getting out of trouble after you get into it. With the arrival of decent weather during the last two weeks the girls have shot some pretty hot scores. June 10 was a special event day - Tennessee Dog Fight. Kathy Sanford sunk an ap proach shot on No. 12 to bring team No. 1, composed of: Maureen Doherty, Kathy Sanford, Laura Schmitt and Stephanie Truax into a tie at 41 with team No. 3 - Doris Freund, Fran Freund, Sherry Patterson and Marc Wakitsch. Lu Wallace had a "birdie 3" on No. 5 for team No. 6, so they finished the day at 42. Eve Sanford had a "birdie 3" on No. 1 by sinking the approach shot. June 17: Laura Schmitt's birdie 3 on No. 13 and a round of 43 led the Du-Ro Duffers to winning the daily event - Low Team Gross. The Duffers also picked up 6 points to increase their lead to 4V2 points over the two teams tied for second place Joni Popelka sunk her approach to save par on No. 4. Deb Mack had a "Birdie 2" on No. 8. (Do we have any challengers from the male leagues?) With only two weeks of team participation left in league play we look forward to some pretty tough competition for first place as well as the rest of the team standings.
