The next association meeting will be the nomination of of ficers for 1974. The positions of president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and financial secretary will all be vacant for next year. Don't just talk or complain about what should be done in the sub division. Come and try to make changes with your own per sonal action and involvement. See you Thursday evening. DELLS TRIP It was a fine weekend for Ann Garrelts who traveled with her cousin, Nettie Olasson, from Roselle. Ann visited her brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Rau, who live near the Wisconsin Dells. Of course they all enjoyed the fresh Wisconsin air and a little relaxation. A special treat included a tour of the various sights of the Dells' area. spent a week camping with the Lakeland Park Boy Scout Troop in the North Woods of Michigan. They learned many camping fundamentals and had a lot of fun doing them. Mom and Dad thought it was awfully quiet around the house; but the boys will have fine memories of this good scout experience. ENJOY LUNCHEON Some * of the ladies of the Wednesday afternoon social club gathered last week in Johnsburg to have a four o'clock luncheon. Those who enjoyed the event included: Jenny Enarson, Marie Wegner, Stella Geist, Erna Piatt, Katherine Aissen, Martha Dignan and Ann Garrelts. Everyone was indeed pleased with their meal and liked the festive afternoon. PERSONALS Welcome home Corny Wegner from the hospital. He's feeling much better and we all hope he recovers quickly. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schmidt and family attended the Plumber's Union picnic last Saturday afternoon in Gurnee. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Russell enjoyed a birthday celebration dinner in Crystal Lake. Please give me a call. an- OUTSTANDING DAIRY COUPLE Winning couples in the nual Outstanding Young Dairy Couples contest conducted by Associated Milk Producers were announced Tuesday at the annual meeting of the Mid- States region in Arlington Heights. Mr. and Mrs. George Laufenberg, Route 2, Dodgeville, Wis., were selected from a field of nineteen en trants as the top couple. Couples are selected on leadership, cooperative par ticipation and progress in their individual farming operations. The Laufenbergs operate 250 ' acres in Iowa county, milking 105 cows with a herd average of FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Aug. 10, 1933) „ An unusual but fatal tragedy occurred at Justen's hotel Saturday afternoon when Alice Lillian Benda. the four month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis J. Benda of Chicago, became entwined in a rubber sheet and a blanket in a swinging crib in her parent^' automobile and was suffocated. M L . S c h o e n h o l t z h a s returned from his interesting trip through Europe. He has now volunteered his services to teach life saving to the young people of the community. He has a class of about ten Boy Scouts who are studying to obtain their life saving merit badges and this course will also fit them for the Red Cross life saving certificate. Miss Marie Nett celebrated her birthday Aug. 5 at her home at Pistakee Lake. The invited guests enjoyed a treasure hunt and awards. A ball game, the proceeds from which will be given to local charity organizations, is to be staged at the McHenry ball park, Aug. 14. This game is to be between the old timers, business men from the West Side and East Side. Cynthia Erickson was in jured in a fall from a horse while visiting her uncle at Caledonia. The horse became tri^ntened and running under a wire clothesline threw the little girl to the ground bruising and scratching her face severely. The Eastern Star will hold a public card party on the E.E. Bassett lawn, Main street, Aug. 16. Admission 25 cents. Miss Carolyn Bauer of Riverside drive, McHenry, on Aug. 6 received her B.S. degree in education from Northern Illinois State Teachers college, DeKalb. Miss Bauer graduated with honors: W.A.F. Transportation Co. announces that busses have resumed operation between McHenry and Barrington, via Island Lake and Wauconda. Frank Miller, who acted as assistant pastor at St. Mary's church, McHenry, for two and one half years, will take over the duties of the late Fr. John Blake at St. Joseph's parish in Richmond. Rev. Fr. Clarence J. Thennes has been tran sferred from St. Vincent's Home for Children in Freeport to St. Anne's parish, Warren, to replace Fr. Miller. Fr. Thennes served as assistant pastor at St. John's church, Johnsburg, before going to Freeport. James Doherty of Lincoln road is confined to Memorial hospital with injuries suffered Tuesday when a furnace ex ploded in the machine shop in which he is employed at Crystal Lake Two McHenry men have won an all expense trip to Mexico, Al Blake and Carl Elshoff.
