He will continue his education this fall when he attends Presbyterian- St. Luke's hospital program for certification as a medical technologist. A June, 1974, wedding is planned. Take another look! She's all woman! She's 5 feet, inches fall. She weighs 120 pounds, measures 343/4-25-35Vfe and has brown hair! Who is she? You'll see her-- or her thirteen parts--at the Miss McHenry County pageant, because that description fits a composite beauty built from the actual candidates who will vie Wednesday evening at the McHenry County Fair. Nine of the thirteen can didates have brown hair, or shades of brown hair. Six have green eyes. Three have blue eves. They range in height from 5-1 to 5-8V4. Two are 5-8 or taller: Dena St oxen, Miss Lawrence is 5-8V4 and Cheri Piskule, Miss Lake- In-The-Hills is 5-8. There are three blondes in the field of thirteen--Diana Jo Howell, Miss Fox River Grove; Kim Karlson, Miss Wonder Lake and Karen Borhart, Miss Huntley. There is also a redhead in the group, Laurie Taylor, Miss Crystal Lake. It's difficult to ascertain which candidate most nearly "fits" the composite description, but 5-5, 111-pound Jan Binder, Miss Harvard, and 5-5, 120-pound Nancy Staley, Miss McHenry, come closest. Jan has brown hair and green eyes, and Nancy has brown hair arid hazel eyes. The participation of all these beauties is possible because local sponsors join with the McHenry County Fair association to present this pageant on the opening night of the fair at Woodstock. Here are the sponsors: Fox River Grove Chamber of Commerce; Hebron Business Men's association; Cary Lions club; McHenry County Livestock Feeders; Woman's club of Wonder Lake; Village of Lake-in-the-Hills; Richmond- Burton Jaycees; McHenry VFW and auxiliary; Woodstock Chamber of Commer and In dustry; Marengo VFW auxiliary ; Huntley Lions club; Harvard Rotary and Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce. Grandma Sez • • • Ovarium The V necklines are quite popular this season. They are more becoming to many people than the high or round necklines. Chokers are good worn with these while long er chains are worn under col lars and stop above the waistline. Reflectin' about th' earlier years, when folks felt that most people tried t' be honest, that there was a sincere patriotism, a beatin' in th' hearts o' citizens, an' didn't complain about sacrifices in a battle fer th' rights o' mankind, this oF lady couldn't help a pang, realizin' th' changes in a few short years. Seems as though th' center 0' concentrated effort, is t' "Self," an' in th' endeavor t' promote personal interests, th' goal toward greater services t' country an' th' people, falls b'hind. Recallin', many years ago, a bein' interviewed for a job, in a large company that serves th' people, I wuz asked why I chose that work. My interrogator was surprised, when I answered that I wanted t' serve, t' th' best 0' my capacity, t' fulfil th' position. I wuz asked if I wasn't int'rested in makin' th' money, as I hadn't inquired about th' wages. My answer indicated that th' compensation 'd come wi' th' effort I put forth. Needless t' say, I got th' place, an' did my level best as long as I worked there. I don't take credit fer a bein' conscientious, but give it t' my good parents, who taught us t' have responsibility, not only fer ourselves, but fer others an' their problems. They taught us that a job ain't worth th' doin' if ^ it ain't done well. We learned that reward comes from honest effort, t' do well fer our own satisfaction o' knowin' we did our best. I learned, at an early age, that it made me feel gratified from scrubbin' th' bare floors, t' make 'em look their best. I didn't git praised fer th' job, 'cause it was expected o' me an' didn't git paid fer th' doin'. I had an inherited obligation t' home an' family, an' didn't expect pay. It comes t' mind, as I sit here, a thinkin' an' a rockin', that th' way th' younguns wuz reared, long ago, found only in a very few homes, these days, wuz th' reason we turned out men an' women, wi' goals fer th' betterment 0' mankind. Younguns seem t' feel that anythin' they want they c'n take. So, they grow up wi' th' same idees, an' no matter what th' consequences t' th' other feller, they take what they want. It all begins in th' home. Parents, who try t' set a good example, usually have good results. Relievin' th' young, o' rightful obligation t' duty, t' home an' family, only does incurable harm t' their development. Grandma Radtke ENGAGED - Mr. and Mrs. James N. Heard, Sr., of 1911 W. To achieve the dean's list this year at NIU, the students had to earn a higher grade-point average than ever before. They had to receive a grade average of 3.75 instead of the previously required 3.50 for 12 or more semester hours. A 3.75 represents approximately an "A-" under Northern's grading system in which an "A" counts 4 points, a "B" 3 points and "C" 2 points.
