For a summer filled with fun, remember your swimming safety rules, and don't let yourself become over-exposed to the sun. LADIES LEAGUE The Ladies League met for its regular meeting on Aug. 1. All the members were very happy to see Marie Hyatt. It had been quite sometime since she last attended the meeting, due to ill health. Prize winners were Marie Hyatt -- first, Jessie Corbett - second, Viola Ar- bogast - third, Jean Dember - fourth, and Joan Delatorre got the booby prize. Hostesses of the evening were Rose Zalenka and Eunice Tobey. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED As many of you know, Alyce Kowal has 3,200 hours to her credit for volunteer work with the Veterans at Downey hospital. She is leaving Downey to take the position of activity director for Lexington House in Waukegan. She has expressed a desire for other volunteers; anyone who can sing, dance or play a musical instrument. Anyone who likes to play bingo, bunco, or cards with the elderly residents of the home. If any readers would like a very fulfilling experience in your leisure time, you may call me and I'll relay the message to Alyce. Or, you can contact her by mail at the Lexington House located at 1101 S. Lewis Ave., Waukegan, 111., c-o Ac­ tivity Director. I know for a fact that the veterans in the hospital,or the elderly who are confined to nursing homes really look forward to the volunteers and the entertainment and games provided. So get in touch with Alyce or me and let us know you will help. FAREWELL PARTY On Wednesday, Aug. 8, a party was given by Marian Vorakahl, Marge Polinski and Eunice Tobey in honor of Helen Rodde. Helen and Gene are con­ templating a move to Florida. Helen has been a member of the Lilymoor Women's auxiliary, since its beginning and she will be missed by many when she and Gene leave the community. Those in attendance were Elsa Kreutzberger, Elsie Metz, Ida Legge, Wanda Minton, Laurie Barnett, Marylyn LoPresti and myself. Those who were invited but could not attend were LaVerne Schueler, Lee Bassi, Marion Leske, Connie Johnson, Florence Martensen and Val Fradinardo. A delicious luncheon was served consisting of turkey salad on lettuce, whipped jello, homemade rolls, cake and coffee. Helen was presented with two beautiful gifts. STORK NEWS The Jim and Shirley Hager household, in Lilymoor, has been brightened with the ap­ pearance of a new baby girl on August l. Heather Ann weighed in at 7 lbs., 7 oz. Those waiting for her to get to the spoiling age are -- Autumn-13, Shawn-12, Holly-6, Heidi-5, and Valli-2. Welcome to the community, Heather. Congratulations, Jim and Shirley. BIRTHDAYS A very special birthday wish from the people of the com­ munity goes to Ida Legge. On Aug. 22 of this month, Ida will celebrate her ninetieth bir­ thday. Many happy returns of the day, Ida, and here's hoping for many many more. Wishes also go out to Marion Leske and Irene Thornton who will be celebrating on the twentieth. Sharing the twenty- second with Ida Legge is Cindy Povidas. Last but not least adding another year on the twenty-eighth are Kevin Ep­ person and Dawn Johnson. ANNIVERSARIES Happy anniversary wishes go out to Alyce and Andreas Kowal on Aug. 24 and to Pat. Two Collections Of Bottles, Cans, Papers Announced Saturday, Aug. 18, is the date set by McHenry County Defenders for the August recycling drive in Crystal Lake. Newspapers, magazines combined with junk mail, corrugated, and "premium" papers, each tied separately and securely into 10 inch high bundles, may be taken to the Crystal Lake high, school faculty parking lot, where Defenders will be on hand from 9 a.m. to l p.m. Those who will be away on vacation the eighteenth may and Herman Freeman on Aug. 26.
