Lindberg announced he has awarded a $151,150 contract to Price Waterhouse & Co., Chicago, for development of an expanded payroll system in the Comptroller's office. The new system will permit the Comptroller to begin writing paychecks for 41,000 state university employees, in addition to checks he now writes for 74,000 persons on the state payroll. Lindberg is mandated by the statute to begin writing the university payrolls by July 1, 1974. The task is now performed by the institutions of higher education themselves. Price Waterhouse was the lowest of six firms which bid for the project. Pre-Printed Applications Necessary For Licenses Pre-printed renewal ap plications mailed from the Secretary of State's office should be used when ordering or purchasing 1974 license plates. Secretary Michael J. Howlett has announced. "These renewal notices are pre-printed by computer for the convenience of registered car owners," Howlett said. "Use of pre-prints guaran tees increased efficiency in the internal operation of this office as well as substantial savings in data processing costs and manpower hours," Howlett added. "With over 4.5 million plates issued in 1973 and the total growing every year, marked speed-up of processing and Legal Notice NOTICE Public Notice is hereby given that on 19 July, A.D. 1973, a certificate was filed in the Office of the County Clerk of McHenry County, Illinois setting forth the names and post-office addresses of all of the persons owning, conducting and transacting the business known as A & S Supply, located at 800 Southgate, McHenry, 111. 60050. Applications for 1974 are now being mailed in advance of the Sept. 30 reassignment deadline. Secretary Howlett advises motorists receiving pre printed applications that any incorrect information must be corrected on the pre-printed form, even if the application does not cover the vehicle you are now driving. Howletl is emphasizing that Everybody is eager to take a bit from those who have more, but seldom from those who know more. field applications are no longer optional if renewal notices are lost or destroyed. Since pre-printed forms are required, the applicant would need to apply for a duplicate by writing to the Secretary of State for a "Request for license plate renewal application." What are the facts? Government figures from 1936 to 1963 show that funeral costs in 1936 took just over 3/4 of 1% of total consumer expenditures. In 1963, this percentage had dropped to Vi of 1%. Burial costs have admittedly increased, but at a rate 1/3 less than that of the average consumer expenditures. Respectfully, Some men make good: others make excuses.
