McHenry Shores Mrs. Rose Lillegard (Business) 385- General Fund To Benefit From Garage, Bake Sale Those who are working so hard to make the garage and bake sale a success would like to remind you of the purpose for having it. It was hoped that we could raise some funds to go into the village general fund - for maintenance of our village. There is nothing here for personal gain - Perhaps it had slipped your mind that this was our purpose. To help increase the funds to maintain the village. So won't you make a little extra effort to find something to donate, or possibly bake a cake? We need a few more baked goods items on Thursday or Friday, and more items for the sale. No items will be sold to apyone, until 9 a.m. Thursday, August 23, when the doors open. We do have a few very nice articles. So come early. There is also one table of brand new merchandise. Only one week remains before the sale, so this is the last article by the co-chair ladies. You still have time to donate. ' Gerry Olbinski and I, Agnes Schweikert, your chairladies, want to thank all of you who have already helped us, also you girls who will be baking. Without that help there could have been no sale at all. BOARD MEETING The August 9 board of trustees meeting proved to be one of most interest to all residents. The treasurer's report showed a balance in the MFT Fund of $4,857.48 and in the General Fund $1,443.01. Bills presented for approval in the amounts of $469.10 for the MFT fund and $212.66 for the general fund. All bills were approved for payment. The Tax Levy Ordinance for 1973-74 was passed as was the ordinance to provide for the establishment of a municipal planning commission. Both ordinances were passed with identical votes of 5 yes, 0 nays and one absent. Proposed'or dinances to be presented to the board at the next meeting will include the "No Dumpin", pre payment of fines and the zoning ordinance. Mr. Olbinski chairman of the ordinance and resolution committee submitted a resolution to the board per taining to the presentation and passing of ordinances. In essence the resolution calls for all ordinances to have a trustee sponsor, be presented to the board after a 14 day waiting period and notice of action on any proposed ordinance to be published in this column. Diversion of the procedure could be done by a four-fifth vote of the board of trustees present. The resolution was passed by the board with a vote of 5 yes, 0 nays and one absent. This action was taken so that the residents would know in advance what action they could expect from the board and that the resident would have an opportunity to be heard directly by the complete board before passage of any ordinance. The clerk presented figures for the financing of the tractor and summerized by saying that the cost would be defrayed by the monies already collected for the cutting of empty lots and that in the future we would have additional income with very little expense. We would also save from having to rent equipment to do the necessary jobs. The tractor in question was previously viewed by two former farmers now living in the village and the road commissioner. The cost being $200. After much discussion a vote was taken as to the pur chasing of the tractor with the results being 3 yes, l no, l abstaining and one absent. The road commission was so in structed to purchase the tractor and to shop for a used rotary blade that the board could negotiate on at a later date. POLICE REPORT Police Chief Earl Buck presented his report showing a total of 46 incidents handled by the department in the month of July with 467 miles driven for a total of 106 hours plus time expended on reports and files. Proposed guide lines for the police department were presented by Trustee Moyer for consideration by the board for the next meeting. OFF STREET PARKING Mr. Koleno spoke to the board in regards to the proposed zoning ordinance and how it would affect him as to off street parking. Mr. Koleno also requested that something be done about Beach Drive and Vine as to the condition of the road. This matter was turned over to the road commissioner. The regular board of trustee meeting adjourned at 10:45 p.m. BEACH LIGHT AND VANDALISM As you have probably noticed by now, a new mercury vapor light has been installed at the intersection of Beach and Riverside Drives. Needless to say, we waited a long time for the installation of this light although the board approved it sometime ago. The necessary paper work and the crew to install it all takes time and we had to just wait for our turn on the work list. The wait was well worth it. The water fountain at the beach was repaired by the water company and vandalism now has it in unworkable condition again. It is doubtful if this fountain will be repaired again unless the parts taken are located. If you know where they are see to it that the police department is informed as to their whereabouts. In closing let me say that I hope we see you all at the garage and bake sale and any type of news is most welcome for this column. I hear that some of the vegetable gardens are producing record size vegetables. If you think you have the largest let me know. 19 CRYSTAL LAKE SUN. Pediatries Unit Of Hospital To Be Expanded Remodeling plans to expand the pediatrics department at Memorial Hospital for McHenry County have been approved, Bert Hanson, ad ministrator, announced this week. The board discarded a proposal to remodel a large storage area when costs proved prohibitive. Fortunately, the hospital can expand the present pediatrics department with a minimum loss of adult patient area, Hanson said, as he outlined the decision to expand the present third floor area at once. The area has six beds now. It will be expanded to include twelve pediatrics beds and a new nurse's station complete with its own call system. The call system will also be wired so it will be answerable at the main nursing station on the third floor. In addition, two of the rooms at present are adult rooms. They will be maintained in such a way that they can be used for adult patients and serviced by the main nursing station should that be feasible. The number of pediatrics beds needed fluctuates con siderably during the year, the 4-H NEWS CHERRY VALLEY CLUB A recent meeting of the Cherry Valley 4-H club was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Hoag. The club set wintertime, for example, often generating greater demands because of the number of colds and influenza. In addition, Memorial hospital has space to remodel a storage room area for an expanded inhalation therapy department. The present inhalation therapy department will be remodeled to hold three beds, should it be needed for adult patients. Aug. 18 as the date to visit the Northern Pump Hereford farm.
