Eighteenth Hospitality Day Begins "On Square With great anticipation directed toward the eighteenth annual Holiday Hospitality day, the Woman's auxiliary of Memorial Hospital for McHenry County announces its tour of homes and chairmen for the dav's events, Wednesday, Oct. 3. It was not always as it is today. Like the youngster who has spent eighteen years maturing and growing, Holiday Hospitality Day has acquired a degree of sophistication and polish in reaching voting age. With a handful of auxiliary members, just over 100, not like today's membership of over 600, the first Holiday Hospitality day was held in October, 1955. Of course, house tours were not anything new, but the enterprising ladies felt they had a new twist - much more interesting and perhaps easier than the accustomed Christmas teas or the sulky races on the ice of previous years. That's the challenge con fronting Bert Hanson, ad ministrator of Memorial Hospital for McHenry County at Woodstock, and his dietitians as they must provide their patients with top care as usual despite spiraling costs. "We've maintained the highest standards for our patient meals, and we have been able to obtain adequate; beef supplies," said Hanson, "but we have cut back on the beef menus in our employee cafeteria." Substitutions in the cafeteria to replace the beef are plen tiful, so this has provided no problem, he continued. The hospital has 331 full time and part time employees. The hospital food budget quickly reflects the increase in food costs. The number of meals served a year ago-July, 1972--was 12,343 meals at a cost of $6,152. This past July, the hospital served 12,277 meals at a cost of $7,781, or an increase fo $1,600 for comparable periods and fewer meals. Miss Marie deGreef, dietitian, and her staff con stantly research for meals that will permit purchase of the most plentiful food items and avoid those in scarcer supply.
