I* UiK U»£ PLAINDKALKH - FRIDAY. \ l ( .1 M' 21, l«»7:5 OTICES | . Ringwood News THE CROSSROADS Who am I? What is l i fe? Where am I going? Why am I here??? When wi l l I know?7? Almost everyone who's ever lived has at one time or another asked himself one or all of these ques tions. Or others--What shall I do? Where shall I turn? Why did this have to happen to me? Who will help9 When? ? ? Sooner or later every man seeks understanding. The seeking can be exhilarating, depending upon where one searches. Those who turn to God and His Church find unlimited opportunities opening for them, as their concept of life is enriched and enlarged. If you stand at the crossroads and the world seems a turmoil of conflicting ideas, turn to your church. Its truth never wavers. Its strength and purpose can make your life fuller and happier. mm Sunday Monday Tuesday Hebrews Exodus Isaiah 13:20-21 15:1-19 40*28-31 Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Psalms II Corinthians Ephesians II Corinthians 28:1-9 12:1-10 2:4-10 8:9 9:8 Copyright 1973 Keister Advertising Service, Inc., Strasburg, Virginia James Scriptures selected by the American Bible Society ^ Mount Hope Church t inted Methodist 1015 \V Broadu ay Ftstakee Highlands Rev. TRAVELLERS' PATHS CROSS It was quite a surprise to the Bill Cristys and Art Christophers last week when they accidentally met up with Art and Sandy Gum at the 111 inois State Fair in Springf ield. It was nice to catch up on news first-hand and to learn that Sandy's parents, Randy and Ro Josserand, are pretty well settled in their home in Petersburg. On the trip home from the fair, the Christophers stopped at a restaurant just out of Dwig.ht and while waiting to be served, the Willis Walker family walked in so it was catch up time on news with them The Walkers were just completing a 4,000 mile cam ping trip which had taken them into Mexico and the south western states. Only wish the visit with them could have been longer. ABOUT TOWN Lee Miller spent a few days last week with Grandma Miller in McHenry. CHARIVARI FOR CROSBYS Ten couples of the Checkerboard Squares got together Monday night and drove over to Harvard^ to Charivari Dick and Jackie Crosby in their new home they recently purchased from the Board of Education and which was built by the Industrial Arts class of that city. It was fun evening of much visiting and enjoying snacks and goodies which included home-made ice cream. We are sorry to lose such nice neighbors from our community but we wish them well in their new home. Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Mc- Pherson of Downers Grove and Mr. and Mrs. Russ McPherson of West Chicago spent the weekend at the Clayton Bruces helping them celebrate their anniversary with a cook-out with all the families. McHenry KNOWING YOU'RE SAVED "If you died today, do you know you would go to spend eternity with Jesus Christ?"' was the question asked a doubtful believer. We might respond in many ways. "How can one be sure?" "Is this really decided before one passes through the 'valley of the shadow of death'?" Very often Baptists say, "I was saved on such and such a date." More ritualistic groups point to baptism or confirmation for verification. Some look back upon a particular experience of emotion and exclaim, "I knowl'msaved." There is no doubt but that the scriptures teaches there is an experience of salvation (born from above) which every person must have (John 3:5 and others). But upon studying God's Word, we never find that ex perience given as "proof" of a right relationship with Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul does tell of his experience on two recorded oc casions, but in each case he used it as a testimony to unbelievers rather than a proof of being born again (see Acts 24 and Acts 26). John's first epistle is written "that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God" (I John 5:13). John's checkpoints for eternal life are all present experiences. He never refers to a confirmation, baptism, nor "salvation experience" to verify a proper relationship to God. It is always a present evaluation of personal life involvement with others. "If a man say, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar" (I John 4:20). The Christian life is one of a love relationship to others. "He that says he is in the light and hates his brother is in darkness even until now" (I John 2:9). "He that loves his brother abideth in the light" (I John 2:10). The Apostle John indicated that the person who seeks fellowship with other Christians is the possessor of eternal life (I John 1: 6-7). The eternal life is not only one of a proper relationship to our brother, but it is also one of a proper relationship to Jesus Christ. "And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments" (I John 2:3). "Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God" (I John 4:15). "Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and everyone that loveth him that begot (God the Father) loves him that is begotten (Jesus Christ) of him" (I John 5:1). Verification of salvation is a today experience. It is manifested by our relationships to mankind and by our relationship to Jesus Christ. "Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved" (Romans 10:13). sTH£ What can you learn by not ing t$e ttpight pf the early inoming oloudSv during tb$ summer months? The height of summer cumulus clouds gives you a important weather clue. In the coming summer months you might want to take ad vantage of this weather omen in making the day's plans. If the morning's early clouds are low, that means there is a considerable amount of moisture in the air, because the day's up- drafts or thermals are not rising very high before they turn into visible moisture droplets. Chances of rain are bet ter (from thundershowers) than if "the clouds form at a great height, which will be an indication that there is not as much moisture in the air since condensation is not taking place as quickly.
