SEPTEMBER 5,1973 Wonder Lake Mary Jean Huff 728-0267 AuxNiary Members Rummage Sale For Fire Department The Wonder Lake volunteer fire department company 2 auxiliary is sponsoring a rummage sale Saturday, Sept 8, at the Highland Shores Community building, 9015 Woody Trail, Wonder Lake, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those wishing to donate items to be sold at this rummage sale can bring their goods to the Highland Shores Community building between 7 and 9 p.m., Friday, September 7. Coffee and donuts will also be sold. All proceeds will go to the Wonder Lake Fire Department. Come out and see what we have to offer and bring your friends. FIRST CHILD On the occasion of their fifth wedding anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick James Letizia of McHenry became parents of their first child, a daughter. Tiffany Ann Letizia arrived at McHenry Hospital on Aug. 24, and weighed in at 5 lbs., 8 oz. She is the first grandchild of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Letizia of Wonder Lake. Maternal grandmother is Mrs. Betty Ascola of McHenry. Great grandmothers are Mrs. Santina Letizia, Hanover Park, and Mrs. Betty Downs, Wauconda. The baby's mother is the for­ mer Victoria Ascola. ALTAR BOYS BOWL About thirty altar boys from Christ the King church, Wonder Lake, enjoyed an afternoon of bowling on Wednesday, Aug. 29, at the Richmond Bowl. After three games and some un­ believable scores*!), they returned to the air conditioned comfort of the church hall where the amount of pizza and pop consumed by the young fellows was even more unbelievable than their bowling scores. EARNS MASTER DEGREE Joseph Liggett recently was awarded his Master of Science Degree in Mathematics at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. A teacher of mathematics at Clarence Olson Junior high school in Woodstock, Mr. Liggett had earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics at Quincy college, Quincy. The Liggett family, including Joe, his wife, Peggy, and t^pir children, Joey, 10; Debbie- 9; Stevie, 5; and Tommy, 3, reside in Oakwood Shores, Wonder Lake. Congratulations, Joe. NEW DAUGHTER The most recent addition to Oakwood Shores is a pretty young lady with big dark eyes who answers to the name of Connie Leigh Freund. She is the sister of Kim Freund, age 7, and Michael Freund, age 5 and her mom and dad are Larry and Joan Freund. Connie was born at Memorial Hospital for McHenry County, Woodstock, on Aug. 23, weighed an even 7 lbs., and was 19" long. Proud paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. George J. Freund of McHenry, Connie's mom is the former Joan Joosten of Wonder Lake. HAPPY DAYS Happy birthday on Sept. 8, to the Three Muskateers, Scott Burrows, son of Tom and Audrey Burrows of Oakwood Shores, will be six years old; Stevie Stilling, son of Roger and Pat Stilling of Richmond, will be seven years old; and Kip Miller, son of Earl and Sonia Miller of Spring Grove, will be 7 years old, too. On Monday, Sept. 10, old "Gas Burner" Kevin Goulet will be 10 years old. Sept. 11 marks the birthday of a lady who keeps getting younger every year, Mary Ruggero. And on Sept. 11, a young lad, James Arthur Rades, will attempt to blow out one big candle. Happy days to you all! ANNUALLUNCHEON- FASHION SHOW The second annual luncheon and fashion show sponsored by the Harrison School- Band Parents Association has the auspicious title of "Lollipops and Polkadots". This year's event will be held once again at the McHenry Country Club and the date will be Monday, Oct. 8. Chairmen, Judy Anderson and Kathy Matesi, have their heads together and this dynamic duo are bound to present a show never seen before that will delight^ one and all. Many persons who attended the first annual luncheon and fashion show last year are already making ptens for this year's presentation, so contact ticket chairmen, Janet Bell and Ruth Heehler, to be assured of a seat at the luncheon. CAMP STORY And then, there's this story we overheard about band camp. It seems that on the last night of camp, after a rigorous week of practicing musical instruments many, many hours a day. the kids were finally settled in bed, with feathers (from some vigorous pillow fights) still to be swept up in the morning. One young lady decided to try sleeping on a top n bunk and in the wee hours of the morning, toppled out with a yell and a thud. Not one of the twenty exhausted girls sharing the bunkhouse woke up, but the counselors in the adjoining room raced in to see if she was O.K. One of the counselors, concerned because she had bumped her head slightly, asked her to count, knowing that if she could, the fall wasn't too serious. Oblingingly, the half asleep youngster began, ah 1,2,3,4; ah 1,2,3,4; 1,2,3,4; 1,2,3,4... SEPTEMBER 26 FISH Benefit Card Party, Christ the King Hall, all welcome SEPTEMBER 27 Wonder Woods Women's Auxiliary Meeting, 8 p.m., firehouse on east side of lake OCTOBER 8 Lollipops and Polkadots, 2nd annual luncheon and fashion show sponsored by the Harrison School Band Parents Association at the McHenry Country Club SUMMER BAND CAMP-1973 Sixty-eight bright, eager young musicians spent the week of August 19-25 at beautiful Camp Augustana at Lake Geneva, Ws., at the an­ nual summer band camp sponsored by the Harrison school band parents association. The beginners, intermediate and concert bands were under the direc­ tions of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mikus, Mr. and Mrs. John Quick, and Mr. John Leighty. Even though the sun did not shine every day, the boys and girls had a great time: recreation-wise and music- wise The week's climax was a 212 hour concert on Friday, Aug 24. The teen-age chaperones who were along, and did a beautiful job were: Linda Freund, Denise Higgins, Diane Eschner, Bill Ruggero, Ricky Christoffersen, Alan Naagh and Robin Rowley. Adult chaperones were: Dr. and Mrs. Santo Ruggero (for the third year!), Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bright, and Mr. and Mrs Morris Crystal Lake. This is the third year that the band parents association has sponsored this summer band camp at Lake Geneva. Keep your feet on the ground, but keep 'em moving. West Shore Beach Connie Schmidt 385-7841 Women's Auxiliary Conducts Final Recycle Service Aug. 25 was the last glass and tin collection by West Shore Beach ladies. Unfortunately the project had to be given to another organization since more volunteers from our subdivision were not available. It is a fine service to the McHenry community as well, however, without total cooperation the project had to be abandoned, we hope that you will continue saving your glass and tin as another group will advertise its collection. With the aid of Boyd Knaack and the service of his truck we were able to have a profitable final drive. Others who gave of their time were: Harold Johnson, Carl Ritter, Dolores Jaburek, Cindy Erickson, Bev Johnson, and Connie Schmidt. Numerous members of the community also contributed the use of their garbage cans which was geatly appreciated. Everyone that made our collection a huge success must be congratulated for their honest efforts and sacrificing of their time for others in our community. The money obtained from this project bought four truckloads of sand for our beach this year. The Women's Auxiliary will try to continue its goal to make our beach a better place for the subdivision. Why not come to have a little social entertainment and get to know a few more people in the sub­ division? Everyone is truly welcome and a personal in­ vitation is extended to each lady. The meeting will be at Dolores Jaburek's home at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6. Old members take it upon yourselves to bring someone new. It is up to the immediate club to obtain more ladies. Take a little visit down the street to make personal contact with a neighbor and ask her if she would like a ride. Bring your ideas and yourselves for picnic planning. Please come! ELECTIONS-PICNIC New 1974 officers will be elected Saturday, Sept. 8, at our beach beginning promptly at 1:00 p.m. In case of rain the date will be postponed to the following Sunday. Your presence will determine the direction our community will take for the next year. Unpaid residents bring your dues as they will be greatly ap­ preciated and necessary for your voting privilege. A community picnic will follow with entertainment provided by the Women's Auxiliary and Property Owners' Association. Please bring a small gift to contribute to the game prizes, appropriate for children or adults. You are also asked to bring your own picnic basket and enjoy the friendly afternoon munching and drinking. Let's all come and have a good time! CHILDREN'S SAFETY Wtih your little ones walking to and from the bus stop it will be necessary for the car drivers to take extra precautions. Also we have students attending Parkland School and they walk along Ringwood Road. Please obey the 15 m.p.h. limit that is posted for the subdivision and other signs on the highway. Let that car driver know you mean business and will take police action if necessary. Our children's precious lives are involved, so please obey the speed limits. DOGGONE IT Many people are ex­ periencing small piles of in­ cidentals on their lawns from loose pets in our subdivision. Dogs as well as cats have been dumping garbage cans over each night. Dolores Jaburek had com­ pany last weekend that in­ cluded her brother, Bob Gobeli, and her two nephews, Brett and Gary. Gary's girl friend, Mary Jo, also came to enjoy swim­ ming and fishing with the rest of the fatnily. Joe Finiello is home from the hospital and taking it easy. Drop by to see if he could use your' help; he likes company. Get-well wishes to Tom Bitterman's father, who had a recent stay at the hospital. Farewell to the Nelsons of West Shore Drive who are leaving our subdivision. We all bid you adieu and hope you have a safe journey. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Patt traveled with Marie Mika and her daughter, Arlene, to Holy Hilt near Hartford, Wis., last Saturday and stopped to see the Franciscan Monastery in Burlington on the way home They are also proud first great- grandparents to Sharon Marie born July 31 in Batavia. Their grandaughter, Christine Heppenstall, and her husband, Larry, are the happy parents of Sharon, who weighed 7 lbs. and 7 oz. at birth. Congratulations to everyone! Say hi to Marie Schmitt a summer resident, who has been taking advantage of the nice weather and gracing our subdivision with her bubbling personality. Hope you all had a safe and happy Labor Day weekend! Second Health Congress Held The second American Health Congress was held last week at McCormick place. Hospital administrators and allied health professionals from all over the U.S. were invited to partake of the meetings and exhibits featured. Mrs. Thomas Emma of Geneva, northern Kane county, and Mrs. Stanley Freeman, Cary, McHenry county, took part in manning an ACS exhibit booth. The American Health Congress exhibits were aimed to show new and improved methods of hospital ad­ ministration and better aid to the hospital patient. Health care professionals gave their concept of how best to improve the health needs of the future at meetings held throughout the week. The American Cancer society had a booth exhibiting the help that is available to rehabilitate the women who have had breast cancer, the laryngec­ tomee and the ostomy patients.
