Ki tchen Band P e r f o r m s f o r Senior Ci t i zens The McHenry Senior Citizen club kitchen band members were quests of the Fox River Grove Senior Citizens club Wednesday. Aug. 29 at a picnic luncheon. After the luncheon and social period, the band presented a program consisting of a very lively group of selections solos, and husband and wife dancing couple. The audience gave a rousing, standing ovation at the completion of the program, which was very gratifying to the band members. The ladies of the band were also very happy on the many, many compliments they received on their unique dresses. One tried and proven road to failure: "When the going gets rough, just quit." Krueger-Glus Vows Recited Christine Krueger and Walter Glus repeated their nuptial vows Saturday. Aug. 25. in St. Mary's Catholic church, McHenry. during a Mass celebrated in two rites. Father James of the Ukranian Catholic church of Chicago, celebrated the Mass in the Eastern Ukranian rite and Father Eugene Baumhofer read the Roman Catholic rite during the 2:30 afternoon services. Miss Krueger is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Krueger of 2806 S. Tower drive. McHenry, and Mr. Glus is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Glus of 504 W. Riverside drive, McHenry. The gathering was held at the home of Marie May Thomas (Dove Carter) at 811 W. Northeast Shore drive, McHenry. last Sunday. Among those enjoying the dinner near t he lake were Mary McDermott's son, Tom, who is an actor on Broadway and TV, and his wife, Mary, who plays the part of the maid on TV's "Edge of Night". They are from New York. A selection of Music, "They Made This Land", was dedicated to the guests of honor, whose family at one time owned four farms in this area and Rockford. Many years ago they donated land for the McHenry school system. They recalled how their father drove a stagecoach with the mail, and their grand mother told stories about the friendly Indians who helped the early settlers with their crops near McHenry. Squash Casserole 8 medium squash 4 strips of bacon 1 onion, chopped 'j green pepper, chopped V2 c c r u s h e d s a l t i n e crackers. 2 eggs , beaten well but ter salt and pepper paprika Boil the squash in salted water until tender. Drain then chop. Fry bacon until crisp. Saute onion and green pepper in drippings until tender. Add crumbled bacon, onion and green pepper to squash along with one cup of the crushed crackers, the beaten eggs, and salt and pepper to taste. Mix well and put into a greased cas serole. Top with remaining cracker crumbs, Dot with paprika. Bake in a 350 de gree oven for 30 minutes. 'Serves 6 to 8. the family with stories about the treacherous gypsies who roamed this part of Illinois.
