Ringwood Road, which will be of great importance to Lakeland Park and Lakeland Shores property owners Mayor Joseph Stanek and McHenry city officials and represen­ tatives from the sewer con­ tractors will be present at this meeting, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. The purpose is to fully inform everyone regarding how the completion of (his project will be handled. It seems a "nusiance" bacteria was forming in the water system that caused the odor. It was a very real problem that has been con­ trolled by adding chlorine to our water supply. LABOR DAY CELEBRATION , Ron and Anny Arthus found a fun way to spend the Labor Day holiday weekend this year when they joined friends from Oakhurst and Chicago at a lodge in Dundee. They all appreciated the nice weather and had a great time relaxing and swimming which all the children expecially enjoyed. Jay and Eric Arthurs are little fish when it comes to swim­ ming and their baby brother, Douglas, enjoyed their water antics. All the couples and their children enjoyed their holiday weekend! NEW ORLEANS VACATION The William Fandre family recently spent a week vacation in New Orleans. They drove both ways and though the ride wasn't especially thrilling they had a very restful week when they arrived in New Orleans. They especially enjoyed touring Bourbon Street and the fun they had at the hotel's pool. Their children, Billy, Timmy and Kelley, had almost as much fun as Dad and Mom, Bill and Carol! BOWLING LEAGUE UNDER WAY Last Saturday night was the night Lakeland Park Fun League held its opening night. Twenty-four couples plan to enjoy the sport of bowling every other Saturday night at 10 p.m. at the McHenry Recreation bowling alley. Watch this column for team standings and >- individual progress! FISHERMAN OF THE WEEK! Am not a true woman's liberationism but I'm sure lovely Cathy Huemann would prefer to be called fisher- woman of the week! While on .vacation in Hayward, Wise., Cathy caught a 1 lb. 8 oz. crappie in the Chippewa flowage which won her the honor and several prizes! Let's all remember to congratulate her on her success as a fisherman or fisherwoman! SURPRISE PARTY Mr. and Mrs. Max Doering held a gala birthday celebration last Saturday night for Mrs. Doering's mom, Emma Franzen. Emma turned eighty years old and was here from San Francisco with Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Bailey, with whom she resides, for the oc­ casion. Her sister, Lydia LaDean, and sister-in-law, Mrs. Frances Oehmke of Crystal Lake and Emma's sons, Richard Franzen and family of Woodstock, and Gordon Franzen and his wife of Chicago were on Jiand for the happy occasion. Emma's granddaughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Martin and family, presented her with her lovely corsage. FAMILY OF THE WEEK Meet the Bassett Family. Homer and Melinda Bassett have lived in Lakeland Park for almost nine years. They have two daughters, eleven year old Lisa, and Amy, who is five years old. Homer is foreman of a die casting company and he busies himself in creative efforts around their home when he has free time. Melinda is employed part-time at a local florist and has just assumed duties as the new Girl Scout leader for troop 320. Her special hobby is re- finishing furniture which she enjoys in her spare time. They all enjoy camping together from time to time. TROOP 320 NEWS Girl Scouts of troop 320 and prospective members should make note to attend the meeting at Parkland school this Monday evening, Sept. 24, at 6:45 p.m. Moms or dads are asked to accompany each Scout and prospective member to this meeting with their registration fee. Remember that the girls did not have to be Brownies to join the Troop. SNOWBALL DINNER DANCE PLANNED! Another date for us to circle on our calendars is Nov. 24! That's the date of our annual snowball dinner dance which this year will be held at McHenry Country Club. Tickets for the dance were distributed to members of the Lakeland Park Women's Club and if you are not contacted you may phone Mrs. Lyda Radisch, 385-2754, ticket chairman, as plenty tickets are available. Twice Told Tales FORTY YEARSAGO (Taken from the files of Sept. 28, 1933) Mr. and Mrs. Nick Freund and Dr. and Mrs. C.W. Klontz returned from a week trip through the Black Hills covering a total of 2,227 miles where the wealth of scenic beauty make it a memorable adventure. Miss Priscilla Sullivan of Woodstock and Mr. Roy Mathews of McHenry were united in marriage by Police Magistrate George Bohr at his home Sept. 22. The Plaindealer is in receipt of newspaper clippings and program about the Symphony Circus put on at the naval ar­ mory in Detroit, Mich., Sept. 22. This information was sent by Frank Mathieu of John­ sburg, a professional juggler who was one of the entertainers at the circus. Isabel Kirk, about 20 years old, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Kirk died at her home in Chicago Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Kirk are among the earliest summer residents at Emerald Park. Officers and directors of the McHenry Country club were guests of the president of the club, Richard B. Walsh, ^t a dinner at the Merchandise Mart restaurant in the Streets of Paris at the Century of Progress in Chicago. Three applications for citizenship were approved by Judge Edward D. Shurtleff at the opening of the McHenry County circuit Court Monday morning. Those admitted are Frank Herdrich, McHenry, Augusta Albold and Martin Piskaty, Crystal Lake. The first two are from Germany and the last named from Czechoslovakia. TWENTY-^IVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Sept. 30, 1948) A professional trainer and leader in Girl Scouting will be held at the Woodstock Armory Oct. 4-8 inclusive to train both the leaders and the mothers of Brownie and Girl Scouts. A charge of $1 will be made for the entire course. Anyone in­ terested in McHenry in Girls Scout program should contact Mrs. William Green or Mrs. Frank Gans. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Oct. 3, 1963) Walter Carey, Waukegan road, is recovering from a badly injured arm suffered Sunday when he was bitten above the elbow by a dog. Oct. 1, Mrs. Betty Fairchild took over ownership of the Toddler Shop on Elm street. The business has been in operation for many years, first operated by Mary Kauss and in later years with Mrs. Jean Green as manager. A funeral Mass for Mrs. Catherine Bugner Freund of Johnsburg was said Monday morning from St. John, the Baptist church, Johnsburg, with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Christian J. Doenecke, for the past four years minister of visitation of the First Methodist church of Park Ridge, has been ap­ pointed to succeed the Rev. Stewart Smith as pastor of Mount Hope Methodist church, Pistakee Highlands. They will make their new home on Jasper Drive, Whispering Hills. Thomas J. Aylward, Riverside drive, McHenry, and his son, Thomas, narrowly escaped death or injury when their private plane made a forced landing in a field near Ladysmith, Wis. The theme "The King and I," has been selected for the dance Saturday night, Oct. 12, which will climax homecoming festivities at MCHS. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Smith of Spring Grove are parents of a daughter born Sept. 24 in McHenry hospital. Rockford Rams To Help Scouts Run Up Score Rockford Rams have an­ nounced a special night for Scouts on Sept. 29, the date established as the target in the scouting recruiting drive currently under way. On this night, when the Rams face Racine at Boylan stadium, Scouts will be admitted to the game for a small fee when accompanied by an adult. Newly recruited Scouts will be admitted free with a special ticket given out by Scout headquarters. Rams management also announced that the top Scout recruiter in each unit will be awarded a football during half time in recognition of his recruiting efforts. The Rams, in making the Sept. 29 date available to Scouts and Cubs in the Blackhawk council area, emphasized the need for scouting programs to help youngsters recognize human values. It was reported that the Rams back the efforts of the current recruiting drive. Boys or their parents may contact the Rockford headquarters of the Boy Scouts of America for complete in­ formation. Names of individual units will be referred to callers on the basis of their residence. Old timers tell us that one can estimate the temperature by adding 40 to the number of chirps a cricket makes in 15 seconds.
