Stanek Mayor Conservation Club Adds Chemicals To Kill Lake Weeds The McCullom Lake Con­ servation Club added chemicals to the West side of the lake to kill the large weeds plaguing the area. They have treated the lake for swimmers itch earlier this year. It should be noted that everyone surrounding the lake rpostly expects these necessary things, to be done without realizing1 who carries them out. The club: has been declining in mem­ bership and only six peoplel attended the last meeting. Yet there are hundreds who fish, swim and enjoy the water all year long! -- These chemicals will tem­ porarily clear some of the weeks, but more needs to be done. If you use or even care about the lake at all it is your duty to find time to support the people who want to make it a better place for all of us. Usually behind the scenes representatives do not ask to be congratulated. There are some of us who do appreciate all these efforts and want to keep our lake a beautiful place. Please try to attend the next scheduled meeting of the McCullom jLake Conservation Club, which will be the third Thursday in February. Make an effort to come and join in the fight to help our lake and save our environment. Inform your friends and neighbors too. GOOD DEED An anonymous good Samaritan of the community cut down high weeds and cold patched the roadhon the corner of Alton and Orchardway. Your efforts are greatly appreciated by those of us who use the road daily. More of our roads need a spot patch before the winter weather comes upon us. If you have access to some patch or could tell the association where you obtained your materials please contact our president, Bill Mohlman. It was a good job and will save a little wear on our cars. SNOWPLOWING The subdivision is looking for interested snowplowers to submit bids for the winter season at our next association meeting that will be Saturday, Oct. 13. BEACH HAPPENINGS Vandals knocked down the no fishing sign from the swimming pier area. Also a stolen boat was found and returned to one of our residents. Please call the McHenry County. Sheriff if you see unauthorized activities on our beach or in the subdivision. In addition there will be two more truck loads of sand dumped on each side of the swimming pier this fall and two truck loads later when the ice freezes. Be aware of what happens in our subdivision. Let others know you take action about unlawfulness. LADIES MEET The West Shore Beach Women's Auxiliary will assemble at Marie Wegner's home tomorrow evening, Oct. 4, at 7:30 p.m. The opinions gathered from the new title search will be discussed along with good food and en­ tertainment. County Singers Present Handel's Israel In Egypt Woodstock's Opera House will be the setting for a per­ formance of George Frederick Handel's oratorio Israel in Egypt on Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. This concert by the McHenry County Chamber Singers will be a benefit for the repair and restoration of the Opera House, an outstanding example of Steamboat Gothic architecture and one of the most important historical buildings in McHenry County. All donations received at the performance will be applied toward the Opera House restoration fund. Handel's Israel in Egypt is similar in scope to his more famous Messiah and is based on the biblical account of the plagues and the flight from Egypt. Of particular musical interest are double choruses descriptive of the . seven plagues and virtuosic writing for soloists. -The McHenry County Chamber Singers include seventeen area musicians, representing six different communities. Featured as soloists in the Oct. 13 per­ formance will be Betty Dixson, Betty Marie Leslie, Georgia Vavrik, Marie Ann Vos, Wesley Vos and Richard Wissell. Diane Koenig will serve as piano accompanist. Friends of the Opera House and the general public are cordially invited. Carol Altman Passes Rigorous Examination Mrs. Carol J. Altmann, Assistant Administrator, fiscal division of McHenry hospital, was among the twenty-four candidates who successfully completed the fifth annual certified manager of patient accounts examiniation given by the hospital financial management association. The 1973 Class of CMPA's earned the certified manager of patient accounts designation by passing a rigorous four-hour written examination. To pass the examination, a candidate must demonstrate superior knowledge of hospital accounts receivable management. Successful candidates are entitled to use the initials CMP A after their names as an indication that they have excelled in their area of technical specialization. Milwaukee Road Ceases Weekend Passenger Service The Milwaukee Road has announced that it will discontinue the operation of suburban passenger service between Walworth, Wis., and Fox Lake, 111., on Saturday, Sunday and holidays, effective the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 6 and 7, in ac­ cordance with an order of the Interstate Commerce Com­ mission. According to the railroad announcement, the one train operating to and from Walworth on weekdays will continue, except that the north­ bound train will depart Chicago Union Station at 5:20 p.m., 35 minutes later than the present service, and arrive Walworth at 7:10 p.m. The daily south­ bound train from Walworth to Chicago will continue on its present schedule. As before, these trains will make flag stops at Zenda, Wis., Solon Mills and Spring Grove, 111., the stations between Walworth and Fox Lake. County Residents Purchased Series E and H Bonds A total of $201,057 in Series E and H United States Bonds were purchased in August by McHenry County residents according to Donald J. Still of Woodstock, volunteer county chairman of the Savings Bonds committee. Of the total, $192,057 was purchased in E Bonds and $9,000 in H Bonds. Sales in the State of Illinois totaled $32,425,367 according to Clarence S. Sochowski, north central regional director, Department of ihe Treasury Savings Bonds division. This is 6.3 percent below August 1972.
