Members of two boards of the McHenry County college "student government" have been appointed. The ,{,new government, which was formed last spring, is a departure from the typical student government in which the student body elects representatives and officers in an open election. The three-part governing body consists of the Inter- organizational council, Student Activities board and Publications board. The ten-member Inter- organizational council consists of representatives chosen from each recognized club on campus and two members at large. The representatives are Howard Gardiner, Spring Grove; Jim Wilcox, Thomas Pursell, Howard Thorson, Barbara Koenig, Jack Wallick and Jill Lutsch of Crystal Lake; Doug Dunham, Woodstock and Paula Harrison of McHenry. The clubs represented are Art club, Tartan (student newspaper), Black Watch Players, Vet's club, Auto club, MCC Choral organization, Phi Theta Kappa, and Ski club. The responsibility of the Inter-organizational council is to stimulate ideas among members of the clubs they represent and bring those ideas to the Activities board. The Activities board does the actual planning of the ac tivities, including organization, publicity, promotion and financing. Members of the board include Mike Tichenor and Don Bruns of Crystal Lake; Cindy Anderson and Paula Harrison of McHenry; and John Puzzo of Woodstock. Tichenor is chairman. Kenneth "Gus" Williams of the MCC counseling staff is acting as coordinator of student activities. According to Postmaster Smith, this new service will permit customers to purchase stamps and stamped envelopes through the mail using a per sonal check or money order. The postmaster noted that "this service will be of great benefit to all our customers and especially shut-ins, the elderly and working wives. It will enable them to satisfy their Association of College Unions - International (ACU-I). The organization was formed in 1914 to provide an op portunity for college unions to join in studying and improving their services and program activities and to assist in the development of new college unions. The group sponsors an annual international con ference, fifteen annual regional conferences and seminars and training programs in college union operations, program ming and development. "It is my hope that mem bership in this organization, along with 900 other colleges and universities, can help the staff at the college develop an expanded program of activities at MCC," said Williams. postal needs simply, rapidly and inexpensively from their own homes". Leaflets spelling out the details of the service will be distributed to area households and small businesses during the next few- weeks. "This new service has been tested in selected cities nation wide with very positive results", said Postmaster Smith. "One of our customers in a test city wrote 'I am very happy about this service, as many of us older people can't get around the way we would like. We really appreciate this new service'. Obviously we are pleased to provide a service which means so much to people like this senior citizen." A small fee will be charged to defray the cost of two-way postage, internal processing of checks and other costs associated with this new ser vice. This new service is for those c u s t o m e r s r e s i d i n g i n c i t y delivery areas which are served by either a walking delivery employee or by an employee in a painted govern ment color truck - and never had this service. Rural customers could always and still can purchase stamps, money orders, mail parcels or ask for any service provided in the post office from their rural carrier. Getting Fat?
