Co-chairmen of the event are Beverly Meikel and Tillie Anderson. Ruby Reynolds will be in charge of the food con cession and Joyce Brinkmann will be calling on members to donate home baked items for the bake sale. A craft fair workshop is held on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Prior to the workshop, beginning at 9:30 a.m., there is a Bible study and discussion group. All ladies are invited to attend the Bible study and workshop. COLLEGE STUDENTS Wonder Lake is well represented at the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign this year. Young people from our community who are now crackin' the books at the U of I are: Larry Church, Jay Cristy, Lee Ann Cristy, Cheryl Elbersen, David Elder, David Gustafson, Frank Higgins, Jr., Patrick Higgins, Mark Pittman and Jay Young. Election Dates Are AnnouncedBy State Secretary The 1974 Illinois Primary election will be held Tuesday, March 19, and the General election on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 1974, Secretary of State Michael J. Hewlett announced today. Candidates will file nominating petitions for all offices from Dec. 10-17, 1973. Primary candidates file petitions with the Secretary of State for the following offices: U.S. Senator, State Treasurer, all 24 Representatives in Congress, State Senators in designated districts, all 177 State Representatives in the General Assembly, State Central Committeemen, Superintendents of multi- county Educational Service Regions, Trustees of multi- county Regional School Boards and all Judicial candidates. "Primaries for State Senator will be held in only 20 of the 59 districts," Howlett em phasized. "These will be districts 1, 4,7,10,13,16,19, 22, 25,28,31, 34,37, 40, 43, 46, 49, 52, 55 and 58. "Reapportionment in 1971 changed our State Senator election program. Terms are normally four years but 20 ran for two-year terms in 1972 and new elections will be held in 1974 in these districts." The remaining 39 Senators will continue in office until November of 1976. Howlett said that vacancies will be filled for Appellate Court Judge, plus three ad ditional judges in the First District and one additional judge for districts two, three, four and five. Vacancies for Circuit Court Judges and Resident Circuit Court Judges also are open. Primary petitions will be filed with County Clerks for these offices: County Clerk, County Treasurer, Sheriff, County Commissioner, Superintendents of single County Educational Service Regions, Trustees of single County Regional School Boards, Precinct Com mitteemen and Township Committeemen. Secretary Howlett said that State Central Committeemen, Precinct Committeemen (in counties under 500,000 population) and Township Committeemen (in counties over 500,000 population) will be elected for both parties in the March 19 primary. Also, in conjunction with the primary, a non-partisan election will name Regional Boards of School Trustees, formerly called County Boards of School Trustees. TAG DAY The annual Girl Scout fund raising tag day will be Satur day, Oct. 13. Mothers of the Scouts will be on strategic street corners in Wonder Lake from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. All proceeds from the tag day will be used to support the Sybaquay Council. This council is one of the few in the country which is still able to support itself through fund raising projects. Chairman of the tag day is Verlene Ducey. Her assistants are Karen Baker and Linda Simon. CADETTE SCOUTS Twenty-eight Cadette I Girl Scouts of Troop 420, with leaders, Lucy Coleman, Linda Simon and Jeanne McMillan, spent a very wet weekend camping at Chapman Hills on Sept. 28, 29 and 30. The damp ness did not discourage this hardy group and they stuck to their tents and managed to keep the campfires going while cooking all of their meals outside. (One night there were ham, chicken, baked potatoes and corn, cooked in the rain, but delicious, we hear.) They even managed a hike in bet ween the raindrops. On Friday evening, Oct. 5, the girls traveled to Waukegan, where they toured the Mueller Beauty School and learned by actually watching the beauty students working, just what it takes to aim at a career as a beautician. The tour was arranged by Karen Baker. Each was presented with a Kiwanis Apron which they must wear at each meeting until they have the signatures of all the members on their aprons. New officers inducted by Lt. Gov. Thanks to thoeo merchants and tradesmen who underwrote the peanuts, the club should net $l,lo6 to be used; for youth activities. Plans are progressing for the: Wonder Lake club's twenty-; fifth anniversary. It is the second oldest club in the division.
