McCullom Lake Gerry Milbratz 385-8543 Give Progress Report On Village Hall Planning A beginning, in the com pletion of the village hall, was made at Wednesday's special meeting. A cash donation, from the Ladies of the Lake, will enable the purchase of materials needed to start the electrical work in the very near future. Also, the Beach Gals, Youth Club, and Ladies of the Lake are currently working on a fund-raising project to help furnish other materials needed. It is hoped that enough money will be raised to get the heat in, so the building can be used this winter, as the village won't have available funds until spring. Work weekends are planned for all upcoming weekends starting at 8 Saturday mornings. Men to do the actual labor are needed, and asked to come and help out, when they can. A flow plan, which was submitted regarding rooms and floor layout is still under discussion. Although most people agreed that a separate room is needed for the police department, there were dif ferences of opinions as to whether a separate room is necessary for board, and organization meetings. Some people felt the existing beach house or large hall could serve the groups needs, and preserve space, while others thought a separate room would be best, for privacy, and storage of records. Programming is still open to suggestion. There seems to be quite a few activities planned for the young, and there was some question as to how adults will benefit from the village hall. All that is needed is for adults to suggest what they'd like, or to initiate their own activities..Another meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 30,7:30 p.m. and is open to residents. Kjiot 4 Of Woodstock E BOARD MEETING Richard Penny of W. Lake Shore Drive was sworn in as a police officer at the Oct. 9 board meeting. Other business was mainly concerning the village hall. Questions were asked about construction, and costs. A work weekend was set for Oct. 21 and 22, starting at 8. It was hoped that the electrical wiring could be completed, and also some construction done at that time. A special meeting regarding progress in plans, donations, and programs for the village hall was held Wednesday Oct. 17,7:30 p.m. at the beach house. NEW HOURS Village clerk, Karen Parks has changed her office hours to Mondays 11-7, and Wednesdays and Thursday 11-7. Saturday hours remain the same, 9 to 1. YOUTH GROUP Under the direction of Bob and Gloria Muise, and Ralph Regner, a youth club has been organized here. The group met Oct. 8, and Jim Hocin was elected president. Other of ficers are Mary Michels, vice- president, Don Parenti, treasurer, and Bill Gleeson, secretary. Rick Orton, Nelson Brand and Diane Michels are sergeants-at-arms; spokesmen for the group are Bob Michels and Dawn Conway. The meetings will be every other Sunday at 7:30 p.m. with the next one scheduled for Oct. 21. All kids over eight are invited to join, and participate in the activities the group will plan. Such as sports, parties and dances. One of the club's first projects is to be a tag day, Oct. 27, to solicit donations for completion of the village hall. Containers will be placed in the two taverns, so contributions can be made at those places, also. Bob and Gloria Muise and the kids are hopeful of parent participation in the youth club activities. More adults are needed to help chaperone and supervise. LADIES OF THE LAKE The three members of the Beach Gals who attended the Ladies of the Lake meeting Oct.ll, had a most enjoyable (and profitable for two of them) evening. Karen Parks won a prize for best costume, as did Donna Gates, and also Henrietta Donkel, one of the Ladies of the Lake. The meeting included election of officers for the coming year. They are Barbara Reiter, president, Rose Gutt, vice- president, and Irene Johnson, secretary-treasurer. New members in the club this year are Esther Anderson, Sena Groh and Kathy DeAngelo. The Ladies discussed the village hall and agreed to contribute a cash donation for the electrical work to be done in the building. A social hour followed the business meeting, after which refreshments were served. BAKE SALE The Beach Gals are having a bake sale Oct. 27, at the com munity center, from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. Their last sale was quite successful, and some items were sold as they were being brought in the door. The Gals plan to have more of the favorites this time, so as not to run out, or disappoint anyone. Donations will be gladly ac cepted. Those wishing to donate can call Lolly Rowe or Karen Parks. IMMUNIZATION ACTION MONTH Village President George Luto says national statistics indicate that the percentage of pre-school children who have received polio immunization is at its lowest level since 1963. D.P.T. immunizations in these children has also lowered considerably since 1966; and many pre-schoolers haven't received measles or rubella (three day measles) im munization. These statistics are suf ficiently low to cause public health officials grave concern over the threat of possible outbreaks. Polio and measles often result in crippling, blindness, deafness, mental retardation, and other irreparable damage. Rubella, when transmitted to expectant mothers, can harm the unborn ND UF IVIONTH Fri. & Sat. Oct. 26th & 27th thru Wed. Scott Issues Official Opinion On Leaf Burning Attorney General William J.' Scott has held in an official opinion that the burning of leaves is generally permissible throughout the state of Illinois. Scott thus affirmed the new state law (Public Act. 78-243)» designed to lift a previous state wide ban on leaf burning. He ! noted that the burning of leaves can still be restricted but only by: 1. The enactment of prohibitive local ordinances. 2. Pollution Control board regulation based upon ac ceptable medical-biological evidence that such burning will contaminate a specific geographic area in sufficient quantities, characteristics and duration to be injurious to humans, plant, or animal life, or health. Scott's opinion was given to Jacob D. Dumelle, chairman of the Illinois Pollution Control board. The thrust of the new law thus de-regulates the burning of leaves as prohibited in existing rules and regulations of the Pollution Control board per taining to the burning of land scape wastes, and the P.C.B. must now exclude "leaves" from the definition of "land scape waste" currently found in die rules and regulations of the board. 0 Newspapers; Magazines 9 A.M. - 5 P.M.
