John St. McHenry( Illinois FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Nov. 9, 1933) Louis Bonslett, 25 years old, died in Chicago, Nov. 4, after an illness of two years. He was born in McHenry where he spent most of his life time. All for fun and fun for all. This will be agreed upon by all who see the Kitchen Kabinet orchestra at the entertainment to be given by the Ladies Aid society at the grade school gym, Nov. 14. The evening's entertainment will include various other numbers such as selections by the Vycital or­ chestra songs by a male quartet and a play entitled "That Awful Letter," given by some of the girls of the Triple F. Class. Arthur Cox, a graduate of McHenry high school and assistant pro at the McHenry Country club for the past few years, has left for Tyler, Texas, to work in the oil fields. A costume or period old time party has been planned by the McHenry County Home Bureau to be held in St. Mary's gym, Nov. 16. The cash register at the Auto Inn Brewery Corner, McHenry, was locked tight between the hours of 9 and 10 'o'clock Tuesday evening of this week, when "Personal Liberty Night" was observed at this popular place. On that date the last of the thirty-six states necessary to repeal the 18th amendment was secured thus paving the way for the end of prohibition in the United States. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Nov. 11, 1948) Zion Baker of McHenry died unexpectedly on Monday evening in a Chicago hospital. He had lived in McHenry for fifteen years, living in the former Peter Freund home just west of McHenry. Parents interested in studying problems that arise with the children in the family are invited to attend the first of a series of three classes on "understanding children" in the court house in Woodstock. Nine new citizens of the county were given their final papers and their oath of allegiance by Circuit Clerk Lester Edinger in court this week. They included Ester Marie Leckband of Ringwood. Extensive remodeling now is in progress at the Justen building in West McHenry a 32 by 50 feet addition to the rear of the Gamble store and the Peter M. Justen furniture store is being added. Thirty guests were present Sunday afternoon at a personal shower held at the home of Mrs. John R. Justen honoring her daughter, Mrs. Gladys Ekholm of Elgin. Mrs. Emma Leisser of McHenry was cohostess. _ ^ Ellen Stickauf and Mr. Stanley Kolodriej, both of Lily Lake, were married in a quiet nuptial service solemnized at St. Patrick's church, Nov. 8. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Nov. 14, 1963) A tragic auto accident Saturday afternoon at the in­ tersection of Lincoln and Chapel Hill roads caused the death of 67 year old Kenneth Jensen of McHenry. A rabid skunk has been in the vicinity of the Edgebrook Heights area from reports from Chicago Rabies Enforcing Officer Edward Jelinek of McHenry. Miss Darlene Schaefer and Mr. Donald R. Averman were married Nov. 9 in a lovely autumn wedding solemnized at St. Mary's church. Rev. Fr. Eugene Baumhofer officiated at the nuptial rite. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bykowski became the parents of a son on Nov. 10. Local Rotarians will meet this week at the Legion Home in McHenry. Guest will be Yesh- want (Saren) Khirwadkar, an exchange student from India at Northwestern University. The young man is in this country on a Rotary scholarship grant provided by Districts 642 and 644 which include McHenry. Fourteen members of the Pink Lady Sewing Guild of the Woman's auxiliary to the McHenry hospital enjoyed a luncheon at a popular eating place in Fontana, Wis. The affair honored Mrs. Nellie Twenty-Three Vie For Circuit Court Vacancy Twenty-three lawyers are being considered by the Illinois Supreme court to fill the circuit court vacancy created by the elevation of Judge Glenn K. Seidenfeld, according to in­ formation received from Justice Charles H. Davis to State Rep. Cal Skinner, Jr. They include everyone who has applied for a full or associate area court judgeship since January. "It seems to me that the public has a continuing interest in who is attempting to gain appointment to the local judiciary," Skinner said. "For that reason, last January I asked Justice Davis to allow the public to comment on the fitness of appliciants for circuit judgeship." Prior to Skinner's initiative, only area lawyers had been asked to make comments. Since then, Judge Lloyd Van Deusen, chief Judge of the local circuit, has followed Justice Davis' example in filling associate judgeships. Those being considered for appointment to the Circuit Bergener, who is leaving soon to make her home in San Bernardino, Calif. Harris, R-Pontiac, has announced the appointment of Sen. Jack Schaffer, R-Cary, to five special legislative bodies dealing with problem areas of state government. The five agencies are Local Government Tax Study com­ mission, County Problems commission, Chain of Lakes Study commission, Advisory Committee to the Illinois Toll Highway Authority and the Interim Committee on Governor's Appointments to the Toll Highway Authority.
