Board policy is for the tree- planting service to be paid for in advance to iessen record keeping, and a new form outlining the services and costs can be obtained at the district office on North Seminary street, Woodstock. Fleck noted an increasing number of cooperator agreements with landowners or operators of parcels from 5 to 40 acres. The increased number has thrust a major workload on the district's personnel and plans will be developed if requested. The district plans to continue several educational programs, ranging from sponsorship of Soil Stewardship week to development of an en vironmental coordinator at each school district. A new state law requires instruction in conservation at schools, and the district is striving to have a coordinator named at each school district. One major 1974., goal is to update conservation plans for farms whose plans are five or more years old. Additional farm conservation plans are anticipated. A goal of 100 new cooperating district members has been established by the board. Development of land use and flood plains ordinances are also a goal of the district. One major activity concerns a lawsuit that resulted in an injunction which stopped the Kishwaukee Environmental Enhancement project. This suit is in the Appellate court. A decision is anticipated this fall. During the past year the cities of Harvard and Marengo were incorporated into the district's boundaries through amendments to the district's program adopted this year. The municipalities of Woodstock, Cary and Crystal Lake will be added during the present fiscal year ynder current plans. Additional secretarial help is necessary to handle the workload relating to the district's responsibility to issue an analysis when a zoning change is requested. The county board had estimated fifty zoning changes would be New Assistant Principal Joins Parkland School reviewed during the past year. Actually, 120 were submitted for analysis. Curtis Waggoner has become the district technician, suc ceeding Clayton Bruce who retired after twenty years' service. District budget will increase only about $1,000. The district will receive $4,600 from state funds, the same amount it received for the 1972-73 fiscal year. MAIL *74 LICENSES Mailing of 1974 license plates has begun, but Secretary of State Michael J. Howlett reminds motorists that by law 1973 plates must be kept on vehicles until Dec. 1. Howlett said everyone receiving new plates should check the number against the enclosed I.D. card and store the plates in a safe place until the legal date for display. He has been active in many organizations, including Phi Kappa Sigma social fraternity, National Education association and Palatine Junior Chamber of Commerce. District 15 feels fortunate to have him join the team. Two Choruses Preparing For Holiday Concert The McHenry County college chorus and the Northern Illinois Choral association will combine for their annual Christmas concert Dec. 2. The event will take place at St. Thomas church at the in tersection of Route 176 and Oak street in Crystal Lake at 7:30 p.m. Last year's concert drew a standing-room-only crowd of over 900. This year the 80- member chorus will perform a variety of Christmas carols ranging from songs from the Renaissance to a modern rock tune, "The Twelve Daze of Christmas." Also included will be one number from the "Christmas Cantata" by Johann Sebastian Bach and Handel's "From the East and to the West." From the classical period, the group has chosen "O 'Joy Above All Joy" by Michael Haydn. Modern pieces include three selections from David Pinkham's "Christmas Cantata", two American Indian carols, and a charac teristic modern Russian song, "The Sleigh". The group will also sing a Gustav Hoist arrangement of traditional Christmas carols. Among the contemporary pieces are Leo Sowerby's "Love Came Down at Christ mas" and Healey Willen's "The Three Kings" In addition, the chorus will sing its own version of "Good King Wenceslaus" and end with "Fruitcake." Tickets will be available beginning the first week of November from chorus members. Further information may be obtained by calling Diana Vickery, director of public information, at the college. o ) • irti • r / •m* jc< rye .,s P!
