One Central American pyramid was 187 feet high, with a base covering 44 acres, and with a mass larger than Egypt's Cheops-when white man first came along. Feast 'r famine seems t' be th' pattern o' th' present generations. Sure is too bad that they don't take heed o' th' warnin's afore they git mired in so deep, it 'ppears't' be too complicated t' extricate society from th' straits that's developed. Jist a look about ye, tells th' story. Folks ha' been livin' so good, we elders ne'er expected t' see th' likes of, an' in a lot o' cases, th' rich livin' hain't been so good fer th' health, either. In me own lifetime, I've seen a big roast thrown t' the dog, 'cause th' man o' th' house didn't like warmed over left overs. Childern ha' been pampered, 'stead o' teachin' 'em it's sinful t' waste food. I've seen mothers cook four an' five different meals at once, fer t' please th' finicky appetities. I alius said that if anybody got hungry enough they'd eat most any thin'. Expensive TV's turned on from mornin't' night, nobody a watchin', lights left burnin' in every room in th' house, e'en in th' daytime, these are th' things that we'll be deprived o', fer th' sole reason that we hain't had enough r'spect fer th' gifts we've received. It'll take a lot o' goin' wi'out, t' make it up, an' we may ne'er catch up wi' some o' the things, gone, from th' extravagant way folks ha' been livin'. Another thing that comes t' mind, in regardin' th' greediness o' mankind, is th' way th' natural operation o' nature 's ihterferred wi'. No one c'n know what th' results '11 be from all th' unnatural mineral matter, foreign t' th' stratosphere an' th' moon, left by men, in quest o' answers t' age-old questions. Seems like nothin' is sacred, nothin' belongs t' God, anymore. Man, in his inquisitiveness, probes inter things which needn't concern him. He needs t' put his energies inter doin' a better job o' managin' himself, afore he branches out, a takin' liberties wi' th' resources o' th' earth, along wi' th people's hard- earned money. It behooves us t' do a great deal better job o' rearin' th' young, reachin' fer greater knowledge o' how t' live in Christian brotherhood. It^ needn't have e'er gotten out o' hand, if parents knew how t' MR. AND MRS. When th' young don't have th' proper example, they sort o' git on th' wrong track, an' have t' sort things out fer 'emselves, an' it becomes too difficult, so they look fer other ways t' solve their needs. On th' other hand, there's that group who have ever'thin' done fer | 'em. It takes a wise parent t' know how t' prime th' young fer adult life. All these things reflect back on ex travagant, over-abundant livin' fer a good percentage o' th' population. There's ne'er been so much t' have, an' th' means t' have it, in th' history o' mankind. It's good t' be able t' afford th' good things, but th' great plenty we've enjoyed, is fast disappearin' fer th' simple reason that e'en young childern grew up wi' th' idee that there's plenty more where that came from. I've been plenty concerned, e'er since they started t' burn up millions o' gallons o' th' earth's energy supply, in just one trip t' th' moon. It's pretty ridiculous that folks have t' think o* not havin' enough warmth in th' home, an' then dissipate so much in th' ventures o' men, playin' wi' big toys, when we need th' money, th' materials, an' fuel, here on earth. Let mankind put his energies an' intelligence t' makin' th' world a better place, afore he spreads so thin, the bounties o' Mother Earth. Grandma Radtke JlinAa. The maid of honor and bridesmaids were attired in floor length gowns, Susan in petal rose shade and the others in wine colored crepe. They had gibson necklines and were designed of white chantilly lace with a matching bib of lace. The dresses were styled with renaissance sleeves and white lace at the wrists, empire waistline, A-line silhouette and back sash tie. Each carried a colonial bouquet of carnations and roses in the colors of pink, white and burgundy. Robert Sallaz served as best man and groomsmen were Kevin Riordan and Randy Meyer. Ushers were Roger Wanta and Mike Bauer, cousin of the bride. All are from McHenry. POET'S CORNER THANKSGIVING FRAGRANCE Thanksgiving kitchens surely are nice. Filled with the fragrance of goodies and spice. Steaming, pumpkin pies in crusty, brown shells. Golden, brown turkey, baked apples as well. Fresh baked bread and cranberry sauce, Crispy, salad greens ready to toss. Nuts and fruits in bowls piled high. Candies, coffee and juicy mince pie. But Thanksgiving fragrance is more than food. It's helping another to be thankful too, Tho' sorrow, misfortune and failure accrue. It's remembering the past when Pilgrims first trod On American soil to worship their God. It's remembering the poor and the friendless too, Helping them to give thanks for blessings few. We will gain greater strength from our unselfish giving, Thus gain more patience for our daily living. Thanksgiving's not made by a few days of baking. The fragrance of Thanksgiving takes a lifetime of making. Ethel L.
