BIRTHDAY PARTY Davjd Lundborg, son of Mari^iw and Dan Lundborg, entertained a group of His seventh grade friends in his home on Saturday, Nov. 10, in honor of his birthday. Sloppy Joes, birthday cake, the Twister game, Limbo and other games were enjoyed by all. Happy birthday, David. COSTUME PARTY The Cadette Girl Scouts of Troop 420 entertained their mothers at a costume party on Thursday, Nov. 8. Moms and gals came dressed in an assortment of costumes ranging from a very lifelike gorilla to a picture perfect Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy. Among the games played during the party was the traditional bobbing for apples. One of the scout leaders got a real dunking and came up very wet - but smiling! Refresh­ ments, including cider and donuts, completed the evening. GREETINGS TO GRANDDAUGHTER We received a note from Mrs. M. Matchen all the way from Muskegon, Mich. He is married to Teddy Ann Mc- Mannis of Crystal Lake. They have one daughter, Kelly Ann, who is 2 years old. Roby attended the St. Thomas school in Crystal Lake and after his family moved to McHenry, he attended the St. Mary's school in McHenry. He graduated from McHenry high school in 1966. After studying electronics for two and a half years at DeVry Technical in­ stitute in Chicago, he entered the USAF and for four years served as a crew chief on the WB-57 aircraft stationed at Kirtland Air Force base. While the Robys were living in New Mexico, they were married in the Mormon temple in Mesa, Arizona. MARIAN FRESHMEN OFFICERS-Freshmen class officers atMarian Central Catholic high school for the 1973-74 school year, standing left to right, are treasurer, Mary Pieroni, McHenry; girls' social chairman, Tari Ruggero, Wonder Lake; and secretary, Liz Schaefer, McHenry. Twice Told Tales FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Nov. 23, 1933) The Ringwood P.T.A. held another one of its meetings at the school house. Music was furnished by the Misses Anna Corvino and Emily Nardi of Chicago. Miss Corvino played the piano accordion while Miss Nardi sang. The McHenry high school trio consisting of George Vales, Guy Duker and Walter Kreutzer sang several selec­ tions. Professor Duker of McHenry gave a very in­ teresting talk. Dr. Paul Schwabe, who for the past year has slowly developed a successful optical practice in McHenry, has moved his office from the Pries b u i l d i n g t o t h e A . E . N y e . building in West McHenry. Facing another winter of hardship and want on the part of many people the Red Cross asks the help of every in­ dividual. The price of mem­ bership is one dollar. Of this sum fifty cents goes to the national organization and the remainder kept at home. Mrs. Gus Sattem is spending the winter in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Raymond Colby. Leo Miller, son of J.P. Miller of Spring Grove, met with a serious accident while cutting wood with his father and brother in Jacob Justen's woods near Ringwood. They had sawed a tree supposingly only part way through when it fell and caught Leo beneath the heavy limbs. He was un­ conscious and required twenty- five stitches put into his scalp while his body suffered many bruises. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Nov. 25, 1948) Mfs. Alice Ruth Smith and son are moving this week from Broad street to Chicago. Miss Carol Marticke of Pistakee Bay has been initiated into Gamma Phi Beta sorority at Lake Forest college. Four members of the McHenry Consolidated school spent one day of last week examining modern grade school buildings. Elmer Freund, president of the board, accompanied by three mem­ bers, Gus Freund, Howard Collins and Dr. H.S. Fike traveled over much of Lake County to visit the schools. Jacque Hopkins of McHenry has been elected to the staff of the Tripod, the college newspaper at Trinity college in Hartford, Conn. William Paul Genegels, 23, of Chicago, a city employee of the Park Ridge water department, is in the Woodstock hospital as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident which occurred near Johnsburg. He had been visiting friends in McHenry. Elliott Robinson of Ingleside, photographer for the Chicago Daily News, went out in search of a Halloween photo. His travels took him on many country roads until he found the very thing he wanted. It was C.R. Lincoln reclining against a corn shock carving a Halloween pumpkin for Danny Adams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Math Adams of Pistakee Bay. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Nov. 27, 1963) A large shed containing valuable farm equipment and a small amount of corn was completely destroyed by fire early Monday afternoon on the John Hogan farm west of Ringwood. Open house will be held Nov. 24 in the social hall of Zion Lutheran church, honoring Mr. and Mrs. Earl Brown on their golden wedding anniversary. St. Patrick's Catholic church was the setting Nov. 23 when Miss Ruth Ann Schoenholtz exchanged vows with Mr. Gerald Hogan. Rev. Fr. Eugene Parker officiated at the nuptial Mass. The Jaycettes, newly formed women's auxiliary of the McHenry Junior Chamber of Commerce, are collecting canned goods to be given to a needy family in the McHenry area for Christmas. Items may be left at the home of Mrs. David Granger. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Toussaint became parents of their first child, a daughter, Kimberly Ann, Nov. 19. Beautiful and authentic costumes familiar to a number of foreign countries will be worn by members of the McHenry Choral club as they present a portion of music under the title "Something Borrowed", containing carols of other lands.
