"The Nutcracker", the magical Christmas ballet by Tschaikovsky. will be presented Dec. 7, 8, 9, 15 and 16 at the Woodstock Opera House located on the city square, Woodstock. Sponsored by the Woodstock Fine Arts association (WFAA), the WFAA Dance company, con sisting of selected dancers from the WFAA Ballet school and amateur and professional actors from throughout McHenry county, will perform this delightful fantasy. Acting as narrators are Mai Bellairs, Woodstock, and Sasha Vereschagin, McHenry. The story centers around young Clara whose most beloved Christmas present, a rather homely nutcracker, is broken by her rough brother, Frederick. Despair turns to delight when the nutcracker conies to life as a handsome prince and takes Clara on an awesome venture through the Land of Snow and the Kingdom of Sweets. Their encounter with the Sugar Plum fairy is but one of the many highlights of the performance written by E.T.A. Hoffmann in 1816. It was put to music by Tschaikovsky and made its theatre debut in 1892 The Opera House box office will be open Saturday, Nov. 24, and Saturday, Dec. 1 from 10 NCCULLOCI CHRISTMAS "mini MAC.
