Five options are offered to grades 1 through 5 each week. Primary purpose of the program is one of offering the students an opportunity of working on something they are interested in and also allowing them to inter-act with children of other ages. This voluntary program will continue throughout the school year with a wide area of classes offered each week. POLITICAL CORNER GOP Candidates In Primary Talk To 100 Persons About 100 Republican leaders and interested citizens at tended an open meeting to listen to and observe can didates for the forthcoming Republican primary. The meeting, sponsored by the McHenry County Republican Central committee and chaired by Albert M. Jourdan, was held at the Elks lodge in Woodstock, Nov. 15. All candidates were allowed five minutes to address the audience and then an swered questions from the floor. The following candidates were present: Virginia Kenney representing incumbent Congressman Robert McClory; Ed Vass, challenging McClory in the 13th Congressional MOOQOOopnnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooot jane, troduced to the classrooms, such as the Walnut Hills spelling program, I.G.E. reading program and a new Math program which will begin on or about the first of the year. The Membership chairman, Eileen Garver, concluded the meeting with awards. Mem bership enrollment award went to the kindergarten class, at tendance award went to the second, fifth and seventh grades for their parents' at tendance at the P.T.O. meeting. The Father of the month award went to Rick Hauck. An open house followed for all the parents, with projects by the children on display to be admired. The eighth grade girls had a bake sale with special homemade items. All proceeds went to the eighth grade class. Art aprons were on sale through the P.T.O. at a reasonable rate. Anyone in terested in purchasing more may contact the school or Mrs.* Shirley Wood. Dr. Frank Tavano made special mention of his sincere appreciation for the upswing of community involvement. He reviewed the fine turnout for the open house held during National Education Week. Mrs. Crosby, co-chairman of a special committee formed on the floor of the last meeting, gave an account to the assembly of the decision agreed upon by the students, to have a Bar-B-Que with a track and field session, on the last day of school, for the upper grades. A report was given by President Kathy Wehrheim on the soup label campaign. There is a need for 40,000 labels. Coffee and cake, provided by the third grade room mothers, were served by the Hospitality committee. BACKS LEGISLATION State Rep. Thomas J. Hanahan, D-McHenry, has announced that he will handle legislation which has just passed in the Illinois Senate and been sent to the House which would permit eighty-four county boards in Illinois to consolidate elections of county board members with November general elections. The measure was originally sponsored in the Senate by State Senator Jack Schaffer, R- Cary. Cal Skinner, Jr. (R-Crystal Lake) has been appointed to the House Appropriations com mittee by House Speaker W. Robert Blair. Skinner will fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Rep. Patricia Ann Carey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Carey, has enrolled this fall as a freshman at Saint Mary's college, making her the fourth member of her family to attend the nation's first legally chartered Catholic college for women.
