PAGE > - PLAlNDEAl.ER-FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 1973 1 SPORTS Scots Edge Sauk Valley College Of Dixon 74-73 The fighting Scots of McHenry County College started their 1973-74 campaign on the right foot Saturday evening as they downed Sauk Valley College of Dixon 74-73. Although the game was marred by first game mistakes on the part of both teams, it certainly was an interesting and exciting contest right up to the final buzzer . Suak got the first field goal of the contest but Randy Blazier matched it with a short jump shot and the Scots were never again behind until the last minute of the first half. Sauk Valley's Don Schott was a thorn in the side of the Scots all night. He hit a two pointer just before intermission to give the Redmen a 43-42 lead at the half. McHenry tied the contest as soon as they came back on the floor and were never again leaded. At one time in the second half the Scots led 62-50 but they couldn't stand prosperity. Chris Toren and Jim Bushert fouled out and Don Schott, who finished the night with 41 points, began to get hot. With 45 seconds left M.C.C. led 74-69 Schott hit two free throws and a fielder in those 45 seconds but it wasn't enough and M.C. won their* opener. Randy Blazier led the M.C.C. scoring with 22 counters while Dale Groskinsky led the rebounding with 11 grabs. M.C.'s shooting percentage was a mediocre .356 but they managed to out rebound their opponents 52-44. M.C.C. will try for their second victory on Wednesday evening, Nov. 21 when they entertain Black Hawk East from Kewanee. Game time is 7:30 P.M. at the Crystal Lake High School fieldhouse. (STAFF PHOTO-WAYNE GAYLORD) Four Ail-Americans Return For Western Illinois Swim Season With eight returning let- termen including four All- mericans back from last ear's eighth place national inish squad, Western Illinois' swimming coach Verne Wilhelm should be optimistic with this year's prospects. But faced with the toughest schedule in the school's swimming history, Wilhelm says "each dual meet will be a real challenge." All-Americans Cory Lawler (Bellwood-Proviso East), a sophomore sprint specialist. senior diver Kevin McMurray (Chicago-Fenger), senior freestyler Tom Payden (Moline), and senior Tom Sch- weer (Northbrook-Glenbrook North) a freestyling sprinter, will lead Wilhelm's forces into its first competition December 1 when WIU competes in the Illinois State Relays. Other returning lettermen include: Jay Hasbrouch (Burlington, Iowa) a junior butterfly specialist; Rick Swanson (McHenry) who excels in the backstroke; Ladd Vagen (Clarendon Hills- Hindsdale Central) a senior diver) and Jay Jaska (LaGrange-Riverside- Brookfield) who specializes in the breaststroke. "Our strong points will be in the sprints and diving," assures Wilhelm, "but our big problem is going to be the lack of depth." Western's challenging schedule includes dual en- HELD OVER! The cast is enthusiastic.. .Georgina Spevlin makes a mark on your emotions!" Bf 11(0 Williamson/Playboy: "The 'Devil in Miss Jones' is unique, surprising, provocative! Exceptionally well filmed and acted --as well as lustily performed, and goes another big step toward bridging the gap between serious art films and those previously labeled sexploitation." Charles Michoner /Newsweek "The Most interesting film of its kind to date because it dissolves the distinction between sex films and art films. Georgina Spevlin's performance was remark ably persuasive!" Kovia Sanders/ WABC-TV: "The most technically polished erotic movie. XXX Bizarre, explicit, imaginative artistry. It's not a film for the 'Sound of Music'--Radio City Music Hall--Reader's Digest audience. But for those who constitute the obviously very large audience for Erotica, it's certainly the more imaginative." Bob Salmaggi/w/NS "Makes 'Last Tango in Paris' look like a minuet at a Boston social tea party! 'The Devil in Miss Jones' never tries to be funny or sarcastic, or campy, as the general run of the mill sexploiters usually do. Damiano is dead serious in his attempt to combine straight drama, sociological endeavor and of course, sexual activity into a true form of erotic art, even to the camera work and scenario." Addison Vorrill/Vartefy "The picture is a sensation, marked by a technical polish that pales some recent Hollywood product and containing some of the most frenzied and erotic sex sequences in memory. The picture boasts an evocative, sensual score, first rate color photography. A major plus in the sound. If Marlon Brando can be praised for giving his almost-all in 'Last Tango in Paris' one wonders what the reaction will be to Miss Jones' lead Georgina Spevlin, whose performance is so naked it seems a massive invasion of privacy." Bernard Drew/ Gannett Syndicate: "The photography is good, the music even better. I must say that Georgina Spevlin looks as if she's having fun doing what she does so naturally. This picture has an obvious moral, with the leading lady going off to spend an eternity in a Hell first devised by Jean-Paul Sartre in 'No Exit'. An Easter Surprise for fallen angels!" After Dark Magazine/ "Ten times 'Tango's' impact!" Glenn O'Brien/ Andy Warhol s Interview: "if you're Hell-Bent only once this year, make sure it's to 'The Devil in Miss Jones'! This could be the 'Beyond the Valley of the Dolls' of its genre." OVER„ONLY! POSITIVE,PRQ.QF.REQ'P^ RATED <D IN COLOR CONTINUOUS PRESENTATION 7:00 P.M. 8:15 P.M. 9:30 P.M. 10:45 P.M. Wilhelm sights freshman Bill Grimes (Moline), Tom Rasch (Des Plaines-Maine West) and Greg Lambrechts (DesPlaines- Maine West) as his top first year hopefuls. The weather condition which should give cause for concern is one in which squalls or thunderstorms are f r e q u e nt--especially when the approach of a cold front is expected. If the air is moist and conditions un settled, in spring or early summer, these weather signs should be seriously heeded as possible breeders of a tornado, or tornadoes. Tornadoes--contrary to the popular belief--some times occur out of season. But in the winter they are rare. Because stronger up- drafts occur in the skies in daylight, tornadoes most often develop then, but they can and do form at night, too. The Harmony Snowmobile Clubs social meeting was brought to order by President Harry Padgitt, announcements were 'made and the Trail Committee reported, AND the trails sound terrific, SOOOOOO we're hoping for SNOW. The trails committee members were out again on Sunday marking trails so we con't get lost. The entertainment com mittee for the Social Meeting showed a real good move; "Four Days to St. Paul".
