I THINK ABOUT IT! 1 By BOB JUSTEN A well known encyclopedia firm published a thick book report describingQin detail more than 1000 fed eral programs that are presumed to provide a better life for all of us. In alphabetical arrangement it shows scores of AIDS for individuals and communities, clear through to ZOOLOGICAL assistance. In between the A and Z, it describes hundreds of benefits in Insurance, Social Security, Medicare, Industrial Compensation, Unemployment Compensation, Education from kinder garten through college, etc. etc. etc. From the cradle to the grave, Americans are given more privileges, more financial security and more ser vice benefits than any people in history. The govern ment policy is, and has been for a long time, the closest approch ever seen to the phrase - "Ask and you shall receive". Millions of recipients of federal aid know how the policy also contradicts the cliche about "getting something for nothing". Surprisingly, the claim is often heard that those who clamor the loud est for more benefits are those who have done so little and contribute so little to society. Not so surprising, it also seems a long delayed idea is now taking hold that they should ask less of government and do more for themselves . . . GEORGF. R= JIJSTEN FUNERAL HOME - 3519 W. Flood Insurance Is Now Available To Area Residents McHenry county now has a flood plain code and a soils map ordinance. County residents in unin corporated areas will be able to obtain flood insurance with adoption of the ordinance at last week's McHenry county board meeting. Federal flood insurance will be available, and the move to establish this standard was triggered by heavy flooding in many parts of McHenry count in the fall of 1972. A flood {dan is described as land adjacent to a water course, Conrad Floeter, chairman of the committee handling the ordinance, ex plained. Building within the designated areas will be restricted but not prohibited, he assured. Parts of the county miles away from a river or lake could flood, caused by the conditions and soil type as the water over runs acres of land in its violence. Foeter said a flood plain is an area where overflow water can be stored until the stream returns to its banks. If those flood plains are filled with buildings and construction, it would tend to increase erosion and intensify the problems, he continued. G.R. WALDO JOINS STAFF-G.R.
