Since the Industrial RevolutioMp the accelerating growth of science an<1 applied technology has given us increased power and new totds to use this planet as we choose. Our skill and ingenuity in ma nipulating the environment have produced tremedous benefits to human life. We have learned to control most of the communicable disease* which once controlled us, to produce bumper crops where nothing grew before, to produce energy, light, heat, and consumer conveniences which were once be yond the reach of kings. We used our scientific discoveries and our you guys wanna swap an out-of-gas snow buggy for some reindeer? technological wonders for the purpose of enhancing life, but in the process we gave too little thought to the second- or third- order consequences of our ac tions. We failed to anticipate the fact that environmental mttdifica- tions which have accompanied our gottd intentions have a global im pact on human health and welfare in direct and indirect ways, and on the generations l«» follow. If we do not have a minimum of 6 teams of 15 players each, it will not be feasible to have the league. A small turnout to sign up from McHenry shows a lack of confidence due to last year's poor weather and ice conditions and scheduling. We hope to correct practice, games and schedules this year. If you want hockey - show up and work for it. We need players, managers, officials to make a successful league at this late date. Wednesday night will tell the story - yes or no. It would be better for hockey playing in a hockey enclosed rink, not intermingled with figure skating etc. Since per sons could be injured. Keep hockey by itself and run by itself. You people are the boss to have or have not. Be at City hall, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12. McHenry County College lost their second straight Skyway conference game this past Thursday, Dec. 6, as they fell to Waubonsee of Aurora 67 to 47.
