FISH PROGRAM When the shopping is done, the packages gaily wrapped, the cookies all baked and decorated, the anticipated parties have come and gone, are you sometimes left with an empty feeling, as tho' something is missing...If so, perhaps you are missing the boat by not giving the most precious gift each of us has to offer - the gift of self. In Wonder Lake we have a real need for YOU. We are miles from the nearest hospital and for some, miles from a doctor's office or therapy center or drug store. Many elderly or handicapped people must depend on others for transportation to McHenry, Woodstock or elsewhere, to fulfill their most basic needs. Through our local FISH program many of these needs are met. But volunteers are needed badly by this organization, especially in two areas, (1) calling people to make arrangements for transportation, etc. and (2) people who are willing to drive a needy person to his destination and sometimes, back home again. The cost of the gift of yourself in this way may only be a small measure of your time and your heart, but when you have given it, you will never be left with that empty feeling. Stop and consider the real meaning of this holy season. Call FISH - 728-0121. This year, give yourself. ANONYMOUS And from that old feBow "Anonymous" come these few words worth remembering, "Even if you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there". Reduce Acres Required For Farm Assessment The attention of all real estate taxpayers in McHenry county, and especially all farm owners, is called to the passage of House Bills 211 and 1588, approved by Governor Walker on Aug. 28. House Bill 211 removes the limitation in the previously existing law which restricted application of Sec tions 20a-l, 20a-2 and 20a-3 of the "Revenue Act of 1939", relating to farm assessments in counties with a population of more than 200,000. House Bill 1588 reduced the acreage required for eligibility for a farm assessment from 40 to 10 acres. The amended law provides for the agricultural assessment on the application of the tax payer with the county Super visor of Assessments. The following information should help.the taxpayer in determing if the applicant can meet the requirements and is entitled to the valuation. 1. The application must be filed before Jan. 1, 1974, by the person liable for the taxes for the year 1974 (payable in 1975). 2. Real property must be used for farming or agricultural purposes and must have been so used for three (3) years immediately preceding January 1, 1974. 3. Real property used for farming or agricultural pur poses within the meaning of said section if it is more than ten (10) acres in area and devoted primarily to: (a) the raising and har vesting of crops (b) to the feeding, breeding and mangement of livestock (c) to dairying (d) or to any other agricultural or horticultural use or combination thereof with the intention of securing sub stantial income from those activities. 4. Real property used for farming or agricultural pur poses includes land devoted to and qualifying for payments or other compensation under a soil conservation program under an agreement with any agency of the federal govern ment and also includes the construction and use of dwelling and other buildings customarily associated with farming and agricultural uses when associated with such uses. In connection with the filing of this "Application for Valuation under Section 20a-2 of the Revenue Act of 1939" which must be filed by Jan. 1, 1974, the office of the county Assessor will have Form No. OFA-57 available and also with all township assessors of McHenry county, Farm Bureau offices of McHenry county in addition to A.S.C. office. This form will be on NCR paper in triplicate with all copies to be submitted to the county office, so that a copy thereof with action taken may be returned to the applicant. PRODUCTION . . .
