A warm little creature that looks up at you with appealing big brown eyes as he teeters on his wobbly legs. That's something few people can resist. Before Christmas day is over, though, you may have had a qualm or two about this little fellow--when he starts teething on one of Dad's new Christmas slippers or on the living room rug. Bringing up a puppy is not all pleasure. It is mixed with responsi bility--and that's the way it is with :nost things in life. Pleasure, responsi bility, work, play--it all goes to make up a kind of balance. Going to church is like that. For home and church make up the most important balance in your life, each vital to the other. If you've been neglecting the church side of the scale, then you have been short changing yourself. Why not make up for it next Sunday? Christmas Day is near - a day of joy and peace and love. Christ mas is, as it always has been through so many generations, a time for memories for young and old alike. Christmas is a time of friendship and fellowship, a time for giving and sharing, and a time to give praise to God. But let us not forget during our Christmas celebration the true meaning of this joyous day. Let us also thank God for the goodness he has bestowed upon our lives and our homes. And let us also ask God to point us in the right direction - the one that leads to Him. This great holiday of Christmas is a religious holiday first, and we should all keep this ui mind. For God is the source of all the peace and joy that comes our way this Christmas Day. And we must re member to give praise and thanks to our God on this very special day, and throughout the new year. SPONSORED BY: GUETTLEH'S SERVICE STATION Eighth Grader Leslie Coble is shown with Santa outside Johnsburg Junior high. Miss Coble wrote the following Christmas story: Santa Claus, returning to the North Pole, stopped by John sburg during the height of a • major snow storm last Thur sday. "I want to give my reindeer a rest," said Santa, who only hours before made an ap pearance at the last Christmas parade of the season in Memphis, Tenn. A Johnsburg Journal reporter saw Santa in the field behind the Middle school and managed to obtain a brief in terview. "Ho! Ho! Ho!," laughed Santa, "this is quite a snow storm. It is too bad school was - cancelled. I would like to have seAi all the children." The Journal reporter asked Santa how all the shortages may affect him. "Ho! Ho! Ho! No gas shor tage is going to stop me," says • Santa, "not as long as I have my reindeer." Santa is worried about the * possible food shortage, but not for himself. He says he's kind of chubby anyway so it won't hurt. him. As for the reindeer, "Getting wheat might be a little hard, but we will manage." Next, Santa was asked about' how the paper shortage will > affect him. While in deep^ thought he answered, "At first' that was my main worry. But Rudolph had a brainstorm and called me, Mrs. Claus, the elves . and all the reindeer to a meeting to explain his ingenious idea. Rudolph and Mrs. Claus will memorize half of the letters to Santa, and then they will recycle the letters into wrap ping paper. If there still isn't enough wrapping paper, some of the big presents, such as bicycles, rocking horses, and doll buggies, will be left un wrapped under the Christmas tree." Santa emphasizes that he is sure of one thing. "There won't- be a shortage of at least two things this Christmas. We won't have a shortage of love and; happiness!" With that Santa departed.-; "Merry Christmas," he * shouted as his sled disappeared into the clouds. 9 Merry Qjristmas Marengo Federal Savings & Loan Assn. Marengo, III. *
