Nominations for king and queen were taken from the student body and staff mem­ bers at MCC, and final balloting from twelve candidates was done Dec. 14. Strains of square dance music floated softly through the snow from Edgebrook school Saturday night, Dec. 15, and reached the ears of Santa Claus and one of his elves and Rudolph, who were sleighing through the sky as part of their pre-Christmas duties. Santa couldn't resist the gay rhyth­ ms, and being in need of a bit of rest from his harried schedule, hqand his elf decided to drop in on the Checkerboard Squares at their Christmas party. The dancers were surprised when they made their unex­ pected appearance. There was nothing bashful about Santa and his elf as they danced their way gaily through each square, and it could be said that many mamas were seen kissing Santa Claus. He'd even dig presents out of his pack and handed one to each dancer as they circled the floor to the "Jingle Bell Rock". Having relaxed sufficiently to resume his busy schedule, he quietly Miss Harrison, 19, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Harrison of McHenry. She was graduated from Marian Central High school, Woodstock, in 1972. A liberal arts major, she is active in Ski club, Inter- Organizational council and the Student Activities board. Her hobbies are skiing and art. She works part-time at the college. Frazer is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Fraser of Palatine. He graduated from Palatine high school in 1972. The 19-year-old sophomore is an automotive technology major. He is a member of the Auto club, Ski club and the college's Curriculum and Academic Policy committee. His hobbies are skiing and working on cars. He works part-time at an auto center in Woodfield. rejoined Rudolph and was on his way. Among the many merry dancers were three couples of the beginners' class, Louise and Neil Watson, Mary and Larry Lang, and Wilma and Dave Christie, who were at­ tending their first club dance. Miss Wilkins is a sophomore at Eisenhower college at Seneca Falls, New York, majoring in Economics. Her mother, Mrs. Wilkins, was graduated from Harrison school at Wonder Lake and from McHenry high school. Her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Frederick W. Sells of Wonder Lake. AND MRS. NORBERTL. KWIATEK NEWLYWEDS ~ St. Patrick's church, Largo, was the setting for the 7 p.m., Nov. 15 marriage of Miss Cheryl Smith and Norbert L. Kwiatek. Miss Smith is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert G. Smith, former McHenry residents now residing at Seminole, Fla. Her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Kwiatek of McHenry. The bride is a graduate of McHenry Community high school and is now employed at Sun Coast bank. Her husband, a graduate of Marian Central Catholic high school, is employed at Dimmitte Chevrolet in Clearwater. The Carroll college choir will present ten special concerts in England during a January tour. Included among the singers will be Amy Leighty of McHenry. The choir, under the direction of Dr. Cardon V. Burnham, will present concerts in the cathedrals of Coventry, Chester and York, as well as in the famed Winchester cathedral. In addition, the group will perform in Llangollen and Caernarvon in Wales, Carlisle, Edinburgh, the Huddersfield Polytechnic of Music, and Bracknell. Llangollen is a choral center of the United Kingdom, and home of the International Musical Eisteddfod. At Llangollen the Carroll choir will share a program with the Welsh Male Choral society. Another highlight of the trip will be the visit to Bracknell, which is a small community near London. The Carroll group will visit the newly-opened South Hill Park Arts centre, which is housed on a 15-acre tract of land. The centre con­ tains rehearsal rooms, recording studios and a I&nelled concert hall. During the day of the visit to Bracknell, the choir will have a recording session at the centre. In the evening, the students of Carroll will perform a joint concert with the Milton College choir of Milton, Wis. In each concert, the choir will perform a variety of selections including American spirituals, a motet by Brahms, and a number of Rachmaninoff, arranged by Burnham. "The Lover's Complaint," an original composition by Burnham, who is a writer member of ASCAP, will also be included in the program. Besides a busy concert sch- edple, the choir will also have an opportunity to visit a variety of sites, including Whitehall, W e s t m i n s t e r A b b e y , Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, the Royal College of Music, Stratford-upon-Avon, Edinburgh Castle, and Castle Hall to name a few. Jo Ann Rizzo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rizzo, 4903 West Home avenue, will be taking part in the Milton college choir's January concert tour of the British Isles. Miss Rizzo sings alto with the group. Westlund, chairman of the music department, will be based in London during the 23-day tour. Performances will be given in such famous cities as Win­ chester, York, Huddersfield, Coventry, Bath and Edinburgh. MR. AND MRS. FRITZ BORCHERT WED 40 YEARS -- Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Borchert of 5109 Willow lane, McHenry, will observe their fortieth wedding anniversary Sunday, Dec. 23. Their family will host a party at the Playboy club. The Borcherts have three children, Gunter of Chicago, Mrs. George (Bebe) Leone and Mrs. Richard (Mariann) Miscinski of Crystal Lake; also six grandchildren. Also present will be a few friends and Mr. Borchert's brother, Karl, his wife and son of Chicago. Major works performed during the tour will include J.S. Bach's motet "Komm, Jesu, Komm", three avant garde pieces, "Kyrie,,' "Sanctus," and "Sonnet" by Joseph Ott, a former Milton college faculty member and nationally ac­ c l a i m e d a w a r d - w i n n i n g composer; and "Merk auf, mein Herz" by Andreas Hammerschmidt. The per­ formances will also feature a wide representation of trad- tionally American songs, such as spirituals and early folk songs. Twin set sweaters are fashion once again and the cardigan is being used for evening wear instead of the stole. Pants are still popular but they are baggy and long. Crepe de chine has come back in style for dresses and vies with jersey for fashion­ ing clinging, soft garments. .«! CHURCH CHRISTMAS PARTY - Parents and children who belong to St. Paul's Episcopal church gathered there last Sunday for a holiday party. Santa Claus presented the Rev. The luncheon will be held Thursday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m. at the Branded Steak House, Crystal Lake. Reservations may be made by calling Mrs. Walter (Ginnie) Ulich.
