TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Jan. 20, 1949) Friends of Mrs. Robert Chricton, R.N., the former Miss Mercedes Stilling of McHenry, will be interested to learn that she has been named new supervisor of St. Anthony's hospital annex in Rockford. The Steve Zriny family has moved from Chicago to a home in Lake View subdivision. Mr. Zriny is manager of the local Admiral plant. Announcement has been made of the sale this past week by the J.B. Kelter estate trust of Lake Defiance to Dr. Urban V. Cpmes. Also J.B. Kelter estate trust of Lake Defiance to Dr. Urban V. Comes. Also included in the sale was the former Deutschman farm owned by the trust. The s^le gives Dr. Comes almost entire ownership of Lake Defiance and surrounding area. Cadet Keith Lowrey, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Lowrey of Rt. 3, McHenry, was promoted to the rank of Cadet Corporal in the R.O.T.CT unit at the Missouri Military_afcademy in Mexico, Mo., just recently. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from thefiles of Jan. 23, 1964) With the construction of an estimated twenty-five homes in the next few months and future development of Tonyan's Millstream addition by Ladd Enterprises, it is deemed necessary to provide a second roadway connecting this area. At present the area can be reached only over the bridge/dn Maple avenue. At the Monday night meeting of the fcity„ council it was agreed to enter into agreement with Ladd Enterprises to construct a bridge across Boone Creek at North avenue. Mrs. Edward Frett and Mrs. Lee Gladstone were named co- chairmen of the Art Fair committee at the first meeting of the McHenry County Art Fair group, Jan. 16, at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Lee Gladstone. The charred rubble was all that remained of the Gene Smola residence on Oneida road, Indian Ridge, Wonder Lake, after fire left a family of eight homeless last Thursday night. The flames, still of unknown origin, started while the family was away and was raging throughout the structure when firemen from Wonder Lake arrived. Among McHenry's new businesses is Alice's Ladies Wear on Elm street. The store which carries a complete line of casual attire and lingerie is operated by Alice Anderson of Oak Lawn. Ringwood News McLakewood 4-H Club Meets Ini,Rich Home On Jan. 6, the McLakeWood 4-H Club held its first meeting of the new year in the home of Mr. and Mrs.Dennis Rich, at seven o'clock. The meeting was called to order by vice president Ben Jacobs, Jr. Old business was presented and completed by the club. New business discussed was Share- The-Fun competition to be held in March at Woodstock. The club voted to participate in this event and a committee was set up to prepare a skit. Talks were given by Peter Bender on "Non-Stick Cook- ware"; Kim Rich on "The Growing Problem of Horse Abuse in Our Country"; Joanne Gillespie on "The Art of Thinning a Horse's Tail". The meeting was adjourned and refreshments served by the Rich family. Peter Bender, Reporter ABOUT TOWN Russ and Fran Davis and baby daughter flew back to the East coast after spending the Christmas holidays with Russ's parents, the Russell Davises, and visiting with friends in the area. Linda and Bill Billikas arrived on Thursday of last week from Boston where they had spent the Christmas holidays with Bill's parents. The$r stayed with ma and pa Low Thursday evening and then on their way home to Dubuque, Iowa, on Friday. Marge and John Granath of McHenry visited in the Walt Low home on Sunday af­ ternoon. They ended up going snowmobiling and it was beautiful out there until mid­ night when it got cold. The Checkerboard Square Dancers had a regular dance on Saturday night and are making big plans for their annual jamboree that is to be held at Parkland School on Sunday, Jan. 27, from 3 to 5 p.m. Chris Gillespie is hospitalized at Harvard hospital. She went in on Sunday for surgery on Monday so I'm sure cards would be welcomed. OOPS! Sorry Tom and Maya. Tom and Maya Walkington spent the New Year holidays with Tom's parents, the Paul Walkingtons. They went back home to Macomb at the end of the week. Also we hear that Lil and Frank Visconti, Tom and Maya Walkington and George and Judy Miller attended a New Year's Eve party at the Sue and Ed Erwin home in Johnsburg. Sorry we missed you last week kids. BIRTHDAYS Again this week we have quite a list of birthdays coming up so happy birthday to Dennis Rich, Sr., Kim Rich ^and Marcella Kay Erwin on Jan. 13. Jan. 15 happens to be Mary Grace Walker's special day and Jan. 16 belongs to Ken Brennan and Floyd Howton. Yvonne (Bruce) Petska and Jodie Kuhrt share their special day and Patti Miller's special day is Jan. 18. Happy birthday to all of you and many, many more of them to come. Bear Truth!
