The purpose of the visit is for the group to make a progress report to the association on MCC's development. "This is a part of the requirement of the North Central Association for colleges in candidate status," said Robert C. Bartlett, dean -of instruction at MCC. "Since the college will be developing a self-study by spring of 1975, this evaluation will be of assistance to iis, in focusing attention on areas in which the self-study can be of value," he added. The self-study is another step in the accreditation process, according to Bartlett. "We view the members of the team not only as evaluators, but > as consultants. It is always helpful to see if an outside group sees the college as we see it," said Bartlett. Members of the team include Raymond J. Stith, president of Florissant Valley Community college in St. Louis, Mp., Karl DuBois, dean of community affairs at Delta college in University center, Michigan and James D. Burnette, assistant director of technical education, at Cuyahoga Com­ munity college in Parma, Ohio. Stith has been chosen chairman for the group. "They will attempt to make judgments regarding the degree to which the institution is fulfilling the objectives MCC has set for itself," said Bartlett. Under the currrent schedule, the college will apply for ac­ creditation in the spring of 1975. The North Central Association will visit again in the fall of 1975 and will take action on the accreditation application in March of 1976, according to Bartlett. Cal Skinner, Jr. (R- Crystal Lake) urged passage of local ordinances to implement the "instant assessment" bill that became law recently. After a local municipality or county passes the necessary ordinance, a copy of which was enclosed, newly constructed buildings would go on the tax rolls when the building is ready for occupancy, instead of the following Jan. 1st. "This is a way to pick up an extra 4-6 months taxes from homes and businesses that are using public services, but paying real estate taxes on the land only," Skinner said. The Revenue committee member noted that it would have been more logical for the Legislature to have passed a law that was mandatory for the entire state, but that a more sensible mandatory bill couldn't get past developers' objections.
