In a one hour lecture recital, Sister Thea discusses the Negro spiritual, the black man's earliest literary contribution to American culture. She explains and sings songs that for 300 years have expressed the joys and sorrows, ideals and religious yearnings of the black man in America - "Deep River," "Sinner Man," "Go Down Moses," "There's a Man Goin' Round," and others. "The Negro spiritual and the Black Man's Response to God" discusses the spiritual as rhetoric with particular em phasis on the spiritual as an expression of the black man's consciousness. MR. MARCH 25 McHenry Senior Citizens Club Meeting - 7:30 p.m. - East Campus Cafeteria. A rockin' away, here in me li'le cottage, t'other day, it came t' me mind how im portant time is. No matter what ye do, th' time ye do it, is th' important thing t' th' doin'. Time is th' controllin' factor in th' result o' a person's life. A body c'n miss th' most important opportunity o' a lifetime, 'r find th' proper niche in which t' build a satisfyin' pursuit,- -an' fulfillment o' dreams d success an' happiness. Th' important thing, s§ems t' be fer younguns t' learn, early in life, that opportunities missed, don't often present 'emselves again, an' it behooves us t' not let one go by. A whole lifetime may be affected by actin', one way 'r t'other, at a certain time. I c'n go back o'er th' many years o' me own life, an' recall th' times I let opportunity slip by, fer one reason 'r another. Sometimes it wasn't me own choice, but fer one reason 'r another. Sometimes it wasn't me own choice, but fer th' reason that I may affect th' happiness o' others, but it seemed strange, most o' those times, that th' still, small voice, McHenry Woman's Club - Board Meeting - City Hall - 9:30 a.m. MARCH 26 Order of Eastern Star - Stated Meeting - Birthday Party - Acacia Hall - 8 p.m. MARCH 27 McHenry Senior Citizens Club - Bus Trip to Flower Show - Bus Leaves McHenry State Bank Parking Lot - 9:45 a.m. MARCH 29-30 Rummage Sale -- Ringwood United Methodist Church - Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. - Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12 Noon. No one c'n e'er know, but what we don't know we don't miss. Young folks find it difficult t' make up their minds, many times, in strikin' out fer 'em- selves, after spendin' a good many years acquirin' formal edication. Many have been pervided for, all those long years, always havin' a home t' go to, parents t' see that they're fed an' clothed an' bedded down. That time pendulum has swung so far on th' one side, it ain't easy t' swing it t'other way, an' let it find its natural place, in b'tween th' two ex tremes. Th' time t' prepare th' younguns fer that inevitable time, when they're expected t' forage fer 'emselves, is all th' years they're a growin' up. E'en th' little ones, need t' have duties increased, when they're free from school, on vacation time. Th' more they learn about th' need t' learn t' be occupied in some endeavor t' contribute t' th' happiness o' th' family, an' home th' better prepared they're a goin't' be, when that important time comes t' take their rightful place in con- tributin't' society, especially in Cartoonist To Appear Before Woman's Club The McHenry Woman's club will hold its regular monthly meeting Thursday, March 14, at the V.F.W. clubhouse, when Mrs. Elmer Stange, program chairman, presents Arthur Allen Henrickson, an award winning cartoonist.
