And, Scout Master Raymond Jensen has extended an invitation to anyone who would like to attend this very special evening honoring Doug Viita. Doug will become an Eagle Scout of Troop 459 at the ceremony which will begin at 7:30 p.m. This is the highest award and position a Boy Scout can reach and Doug achieved his goal in two-and-one-half- years of hard, but enjoyable work. Doug is 14-years-old and needless to say, his family is extremely proud of him. Dad and mom, Charlie and Mildred, will of course be on hand for their son's special night as will the rest of the Viita family, Cam, Forest and Marlene. Our congratulations are extended to Doug and to his proud family. And, we wish him many more happy years in scouting. Doug will become the second Eagle Scout in Troop 459 and will join Roger Lanz in this honorable position. Again, our sincere congratulations! DUAL CELEBRATION Earlier this month the Parisi family had a very exciting day. A surprise party was held at the Community House to honor both Sam and Connie's birthdays. Approximately eighty relatives and friends were on hand for the festivities. Richard and Margaret Mercure, Stan and Rose Slonina, Bob and Mary Ann Cholewa, Pete and Bonnie Parisi and Joe Parisi were all instrumental in planning the surprise party for their parents and were there for the special day.-- Sam and Connie were also pleased that all seventeen of their grandchildren were there to help them celebrate. The grandchildren are Karen, Judy and Mark Slonina; Sandy and Debbie Cholewa; Joey, Steve and Tony Parisi; Dawn, Dean, Danny, David and Derrick Parisi and Renee, Robin, Ricky and Richelle Mercure. FUN LEAGUE NEWS Richard Mercure leads the men of the Lakeland Park Fun League with his high series scratch of 615. Joanne Gilbert has the lead of the women with her 508 scratch series. Other notable scores from when the league last met are these high individual scores. Roy Apel had a 212 high game, 544 scratch series; Rich Mercure bowled a 213 game and finished the evening with a 532 series; Ken Massheimer bowled a 200 game and a 559 scratch series; Ron Bierman had a 181 game and a 529 series; George Schlung bowled a 203-526 scratch for the evening; and, Don Mercure also had a good night with his 212-513 finish. Barb Meurer had a good night 8nd bowled a 190 game and a 444 scratch series. Eleanor Reid had a 157 high game for the evening and finished with a 422 series. Their son, Kevin, was married to Susan Allison at a ceremony in Woodstock. Susan is the daughter of Robert and Carol Allison of Pistakee. Kevin's parents, Richard and Jean, held an open house for the young couple following the ceremony. Approximately fifty guests enjoyed the buffet dinner and the days festivities. Kevin's sister, Nancy, and her friend, Eric Erickson, and Kevin's brother, Richard, along with his wife, Diane, and their sons, Michael and Richie, were very excited with the day's activities and helped / welcome the guests to the Hahndorf home. Barbara Berry was guest of honor at a baby shower held in the community house and received many lovely and practical gifts. Arnold and Barbara are expecting their first child next month. Mary Murphy, Eileen Brown, Kate Stevenson and Barbara's grandmother, Mrs. Carey, were hostesses for the very excited mother-to-be's special day. Approximately thirty-five women gathered from as far away a: Florida, Chicago, Norridge, Carpentersville, Elgin, and of course as near as Lakeland Park, to give the very happy expectant mother some beautiful gifts. Barbara's mother-in-law, also Barbara Berry, was at the shower while the men, Harry and his son Arnold Berry kept Joseph Murphy company at home for the afternoon. NEBRASKA JOURNEY Mrs. Sam (Joan) Buccaro and her eight-year-old daughter, Kim, recently returned from a two-week visit to Nebraska. Joan's mother, Mrs. Freida Waller, was seriously ill and hospitalized in Lincoln. I'm glad to say that Mrs. Waller is well on the road to recovery and will be released from the hospital soon. SUNNY VISIT Mrs. Helen Brooks recently spent a week at Treasure Island, Fla., "'(near St. , Petersburg) visiting with her brother Jim Metthew. Helen was joined at O'Hare Airport by her sister, Mary Watson, from Duluth, Minn., who journeyed to Florida with her. * They enjoyed their visit and the beautiful sunny climate! Anthony Patrick "Tony" Parisi turned eleven years old on St. Patrick's day and his family gathered to help him celebrate his special day. His brothers, Joey and Steve, helped him blow out the candles (Mi his special St. Patrick's birthday cake but his cousins, Karen, Judy and Mark Slonina; Dawn, Dean, Danny, David and Derrick Parisi; and Renee, Robin, Ricky and Richelle Mercure, helped him eat the cake! WITH SYMPATHY Two area families were saddened by the death of Mrs. Lillian Budish, 58, on March 15 at McHenry hospital. Mrs. Budish was the other of Sue Volz and William Fandre of Lakeland Park and Frank Fandre of Peru, Ind. She is also survived by nine grand­ children, three sisters and one brother. We know Mrs. Budish will be missed by her family and we extend our heartfelt sympathy to them all in their time of grief. KOFFEE-KLUTCH Sharon Gacek's home was the setting for a recent koffee- klutch held to benefit the Pioneer Center? Beverly Walinski, Dorothy Lense and I were there to enjoy the morning of conversation and the delicious cakes Sharon served. It was a most enjoyable Wednesday morning! CHICAGO VISITORS Last weekend we enjoyed a fun day of visiting with friends from the past, so to speak. Roger and Mary Flammang drove out from Chicago for the day with their children, Amy and Benjamin. We have known each other since high school days when Roger and Steve were playing basketball for Gordon Technical high school and Mary and I were cheering them on to victory from the stands. Years slipped by since our weddings and it was indeed fun to see each other again and meet each other's families!
