Presently in its 4th active year the Industrial League has grown from ah initial 4 teams in 1971 to 6 teams last year in 1973 and is growing to 8 teams or better in membership for this present baseball season. Teams returning from last year include the championship Swanson Chalet, Morton Chemical, Rusty Nail, and Brake Parts. The Lakers, McHenry Hospital and The Group have not yet expressed a 100 percent desire to rejoin, however 3r new teams have tentatively asked for league membership. Since the new schedule will have to be drawn up soon new team managers should apply for membership before April 1. If interested contact Pat Wirtz, 385-0191, between 7-8 p.m. week nights. Also for further information there will be a manager's meeting in the upstairs of Swanson Chalet, Wednesday night, March 27, at 7:30 p.m. Games are played from the middle of May through August - -each team playing an 18-game schedule with the top 4 teams in a playoff to determine the league championship. Last year games began at 6:30 p.m. each Thursday evening behind McHenry West campus high school. This year Tuesday nights may have to be used as an additional playing night to compensate an increase in the number of teams within the league. Items to be discussed during the March 27 meeting include: 1. Team membership cutoff date; 2. Team roster turnin date; 3. League schedule (nights-dates); 4. Team entry fees; 5. Discussion on umpires; 6. Scheduling of the Rules Meeting concerning the new 1974 Softball Rules Book, submitted by Pat Wirtz McHENRY YOUTH LEAGUE Boys, the final day for registration is Saturday, March 23. As announced in this paper last week, registration is being held at the McHenry V.F.W. between the hours of 1 and 4 p.m. Tlie McHenry Junior Youth League is open to boys born between August 1, 1961, and July 31,1966, and is divided into 3 divisions. The division you are in is based upon your age. All boys who want to play MUST Register, even though you played last year. No registrations will be taken at tryouts, so you must register prior to tryouts, which will be held at the McHenry high school West campus gymnasium on Sunday, April 7, from Noon to 5 p.m. If you cannot make the registration at the V.F.W., registration blanks are available and may be completed at McHenry's Favorite Sports Center, 1210 N. Green St., McHenry, 111. Any boy registering for the first time must bring a certified birth certificate with him when registering. mi p s •• % - * JAMES ANDERSON Student Teacher Will Instruct MCC Agriculture Class James Anderson, a senior at the University of Illinois at Urbana, will be student teaching at McHenry County college in the agriculture department during the spring semester. "Jim is part of a pilot program for community college teaching," said Donald Barrett, head of the agriculture. program at MCC. "The students receive two years of technical education followed by two years at the University of Illinois." Anderson graduated from Triton college in River Grove with an associate degree in ornamental horticulture. He has had experience in the same field, working in a Chicago flower shop for five years. ' * ' *> / •>' Y ' < >'-V • • - v - ' * vtn or- * *Sj. * / 292 m Member Drive In Educational Foundation Begins The membership drive for the McHenry County Educational foundation began last week at the monthly meeting of the Foundation's board of directors. A gold laminated card will indicate a life membership and the 10-year members will receive a brown laminated card. The cards will be laminated to stand wear and tear and to last for a long period of time. The one year membership cards will be white in color., In addition ^to the gold laminated card, life members >yill receive a specially ^designed plaque with die name of the individual or the firm engraved on the plaque. The plaque will be suitable for placing on the wall either in the house or in the office. While the membership drive started March 13, it will differ . from most drives due to the fact that it will continue the year 'round. At the present time, investments in memberships may be obtained from any foundation director or. at the office located at 95 Grant street in Crystal Lake. Plans are being made to start the drive in all of the towns where students belong to the Junior college district. Regular drives will be conducted in these locations and people may make their investments through one of their local citizens and neighbors. Details of the membership drive in each community will be announced shortly. Monies made from investments in foundation memberships will be used to defray office expenses and to apply to the 1974 goals of the foundation to raise $450,000 for a Community center at the Riverside drive. Bond set at $25, court date April 8. Officer James Crawford charges that on March 16, George A. Haze, Jr., Country Club drive, McHenry, committed the offense of resisting a peace officer. Bond set at $1,000, court date April 8. Deputy Sheriff Edgar Fair charges that on Nov. 25, 1973, Herman Jacobsen, Jr., 4212 W. Ponca, McHenry, committed the offenses of improper left turn and driving without a valid driver's license in that he did while operating an automobile on Country Club road attempt to make a left turn onto Bull Valley road and entered the west-bound lane of Country Club road prior to the intersection of said roads. Notice given to appear March 25 in court. They are Ed Kaska, Pres., Dale Pitz, V.*, Pres., Betty Graham Sec., and Shirley Smith, Treas. These new officers will take over the first meeting in April. The board members are Roy Roadman, Alby Adams and Harry Padgitt. The club has accomplished many things in the past year witti their successful- dance in January and their Safety courses last fall and one coming up in April. The new officers have a tremendous year planned for use for next year so come out to the meetings and give them your support. Another group of club members that needs a big hand are the fellows that donated their time to going to the Safety and Law courses given by the Sheriffs Department.
