It's New York's newest dining experience, a casually- elegant restaurant in Rockefeller Center and was the setting for dinner, entertaining visiting edi tors on the first night during N.Y. Couture Coun cil Press Week. Ou-tlic-go umiriiit-t* Designed for or.-the-go gourmets, the chic new stew-ery offers savory meals in surroundings that are a feast for the eyes. The menu is based on soups and meals-in-a-pot adapted from time-hon ored recipes from around the world. The restaurant's namesake, pot au feuv is a tasty tradition itself, originating with the hearty peasant potages of the 17th century. Pot au Feu, New York style, brimming with chunks of meat, chicken, vegetables and a dumpling is a daily feature. Altrartivr decor Selectionsare made from the gleaming dark green Italian marble serving table, set off by an orange tile wall, a canopy in colors ranging from bittersweet to marigold, and a shim mering steel-beaded drape. The striking multi- tiered dining area is a veritable modern maison ette, accommodating 150 guests on aubergine ban quettes and' white basket weave orange - cushioned chairs, accented by purple Italian glass tile retaining walls. The sparkling waterfall, abundant greenery, butch- er block - tables and weathered wood walls add the warmth of a country inn. It all adds up to an eye- pleasing and palate-pleas ing experience. STARTS with a young point of view ... to which is added equal portion* of superbly tailored detail, then shaped with couture expertise. That's the prescription from White Swan, leading designer of fashion uniforms. For Spring, White Swan offers a variety of young styles. Profes sionally speaking, it's the "soft touch" mood, with feminine fashion accents. Looking for stylish direction? Hail the red, white and blue - "Buy America," com plete with drums, trumpets and marching band, was the theme of the Fashion Group's recent showing in New York City. Presented first was a sports collection featuring sweatshirt, jogging suit, tennis dress and official Olympic stars 'n stripes swimsuit, in red, white and blue. Looser fits in suitings included shirt-like longer jackets, blousons, bubble tops, and little fly away jackets, mostly topping on the big skirts. Tent, one-shoulder dresses and sweater suits appeared softer in texture, looser in construction. Lingerie and at-home looks seive a double pur pose this season. They can stay at home or go to bed, or they can step out "for dining and dancing. But the big fashion news is in rainwear which says good-bjie to-the raincoat and hello to the ralnsuit, poncho, tenty jacket and jumpsuit. This season, gently flow ing chiffon is on ultra- feminine gowns with cot ton candy shades arranged in attractive floral prints. Color ideas favor linen like tones: soft, sunshine pastels (mauve, pink, blue, yellow and apricot) as well as the sexy red and black. Merchandise at this show was exclusively by American designers. American "ready-to- wear" fashions, the main features, were backed by stylish footwear, legwear, hats and veilings, gloves, and scarves. cH<xh.h.u E-QAtsx McHENRY COUNTRY CLUB 820 N.
