It could not have been truer of anyone, however, that Henry Fielding, author of "Tom Jones", the rowdy novel of eighteenth century life from which the Townsquare Players production of "Tom Jones", coining to the Woodstock Opera House May 17, 18, 24 & 25, was adapted. Born into the aristocracy, Fielding knew upper class life Pre-School Kindergarten Registration Johnsburg school District 12 is holding a comprehensive registration program for all children who will be 3 or 4 years old by Dec. 1, 1974. The dates are April 24 and 25 in the school administrative office. In compliance with Illinois Legislation this pre-school census will be conducted in conjunction with the district's kindergarten registration. This is the first step in providing educational services for the children in Johnsburg school district. The major purpose is to detect possible learning problems or special needs during the pre-school years. Parents will be asked. to complete an information card, brief medical questionnaire and social history of the child. Many children who are screened show no problems, and this is reassuring to parents. ^ The child may need help if he or she has some problems in: talking as well as he should--no speech, unclear speech, few words, non-English speaking background; learning as fast as he could--short memory, inability to pay attention, needs frequent repetition, needs continual direction; behaving as well as he could--Bites, hits, tantrums, trouble getting along with parents or other adults, trouble playing with other children; seeing as well as he should--often sleepy or squinting, cross-eyed, needs to move objects very close to his eyes; hearing as well as he should--often asks "What", looks confused after given direction, makes no move after a loud noise; moving as well as he should--often falls, trouble walking and running, trouble picking up and placing objects, trouble feeding himself. Since this service can be of definite benefit to District 12 parents and children, school administrators are hoping that parents of 3 and 4-year-olds will register at their schools. Registration will be done alphabetically as follows: A through E, April 24, 9 to 11; F through J, April 24, 1 to 3; K through R, April 25, 9 to 11; S through Z, April 25, 1 to 3. Any questions may be directed to Harry May, principal, at James C. Bush elementary school. from birth but because he was impoverished from early manhood he also came to know what English life was like on other levels, and he could thus convey an authentic picture of all strata of his time. All the sunny serenity of the early part of "Tom Jones", the fox hunting days of young Tom when he is falling in love with the ardent young Sophia without her hearty father, Squire Western, realizing it, has been traced to Fielding's own youth spent in a similar setting in Dorsetshire. The humorous, earthy-elegant atmosphere of the novel has been carried over into the play made from it by David Rogers. Call 675-2066 for more information or to reserve tickets.
