/ PAGE ft - PLAINDEALER-WEDNESDAY, APRIL 24, 1974 Sophs Tiefeat Elgin 11 To 10 EARL WALSH So I Hear loly Cow! Just watched the White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 11- 7 in a whing-ding ball game. We are beginning to see that tfatting power the writers told 15 about all spring. Before the Sox broke loose for i 7-run inning, the announcer i sminded that tomorrow is an < 9 day. Could just hear those Cub entors saying, "Every day an off day for those White x." SPORTS EDITOR 1 Note to Bill DeVries: Your "favorite", Ron Santo, played a beautiful game at third base. He has new life and spirit on the south side of town. If it is any comfort to you, Bill, Eddie Buss can't see Santo's greatness either. Now it's "Busse The Bimbo Bowler." The boys twisted his arm to bowl on the Bimbo team in the Chicago Classics. What does he do but bowl a 668 series! No support though. His team lost. Unconditional release for some. Walt Freund's column prediction on Brian Downing looks better each day. The crowd gave Downing a standing ovation. Quite a tribute to a young third baseman-outfielder recently turned catcher. Through heavy rain we set sail for Johnsburg Sunday morning for the pancake breakfast served by the Hettermann softball team. We knew those guys could play ball, but had no idea they could make such good pancakes. Jack Schaefer poured coffee and carried messages to us from various persons about the losing ways of our White Sox. Lloyd and Doris Freund were working. They never lose their enthusiasum for sports. By Dick Rabbitt In what would be considered a gutty performance, the McHenry sophomore baseball team defeated Elgin 11 to 10 in 9 innings last Thursday. Trailing 4 to 0 after one inning of play, the sophs came back and rallied to a 7 to 7 tie after regulation play. Trailing again going into the bottom of the 9th 10 to 9, they rallied for 2 runs to bring about the victory.. Tony Christy in relief of Tommy Ludwig picked up the win for the locals. Christy had 2 doubles, and Jeff Diamani had one, plus a solo homer by catcher Joel Wakitsch. On Wednesday in a free for all they defeated Elgin by a score of 11 to 10. Ray Williams led the attack with 3 hits, and Kevin Worm picked up the win. On Saturday they defeated Mundelein in a double header On the way out, we peeked in the kitchen and saw Dick Hiller (former Big Poison on the Tigers). We also noted that the boys couldn't put it all together without the help of some gals in the kitchen. If you know A. G. Hodessy of Whispering Oaks, ask him about man's forgetfulness in life. He lists four. Of course, he may have forgotten them.
