PAGE lg^PLAlNPEALE^ FRIDAY, APRIL 26, 1974. Twice Told Tales (Taken from the files of April 26. 1934) < McHenry was in the path of one of the worst dust storms in years which swept out of the northwest, Monday. Thomas P. Bolger, McHenry druggist, was elected vice- chairman of the Retail Druggists association of the eleventh congressional district at a meeting held recently. This association comprises the druggists of Kane, Will, McHenry and DuPage counties. fptanfa(dt&nd I in I I believe this universe is no accident. I believe all life comes from God. * I believe He cares about ME . . . and wants me really to care about Him. I believe I have fallen short of pleasing God ... yet He still lets me live in freedom. I am not his slave. I believe that Jesus Christ revealed God's forgiving love when He-- the Son of God--sacrificed His perfect life for my imperfect life. I believe that Jesus rose from death, assuring me that it is God's de sire that I, too, may reach eternity. And because I believe--I want to share with you my Faith . .. and the inspiration I have found as I worship every Sunday in church. SERVICES Mount Hope Church United Methodist 1015 W. Honors Feminist With Plaque Awards More than any other person, Susan B. Anthony (1820-1906) was responsible for the organization and success of the women's suffrage movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In her honor, the McHenry County National Organization for women has presented the Susan B. Anthony Feminist award to two men who have furthered the goal of equal rights for women and men. Senator Jack Schaffer and Rep. Cal Skinner have been chosen for this award on the basis of their voting record on bills of interest to women which were passed during the recent session of the General Assembly. Schaffer and Skinner are also supporting the Equal Rights amendment which will benefit both women and men. N.O.W. is a non-profit action organization whose main concern is establishing equality between the sexes. On a local level, N.O.W. is sensitive to the changing needs of the women in this county. Any, inquiries may be directed to McHenry County N.O.W., Box 733, Woodstock, or Karen Marino, secretary, 385- 4910. XOO! • ' BUS STOP PROBLEMS Since the director of bus services for the school district has seen fit to reroute the bus pick-ups there have been several complaints about children's behaviour at the two bus stop locations we are allowed. The latest problem is children blocking the road so that cars cannot pass. Certainly there is no reason students in any age group need be reminded of the dangers of these activities. I do not know how long we will have to wait for the buses to return to the regular bus routes, but I'm sure the folks on Sunset are becoming weary of having all the children in the subdivision in front of their homes every day. BIRTHDAYS Happy birthday greetings to Dennis Jeschke on April 28; to Mary Kaye Catanzaro and Kristin Johnson on April 29; to Betty Robinson on May 1; and to John Drew on May 3. ANNIVERSARIES Happy anniversary roses to Kitty and Don Hill on their special day April 28; to Mary Ann and Bill Mahon on their special day May 1. For centuries, when Chinese boys or girls acquired leg or arm weakness, they were fed powdered "dragon bones", brought in from the Gobi desert. These were dinosaur bones, and the calcium content generally corrected the trouble. ! THINK ABOUT IT! i J *Comparing_ regular _ and promotional manufacturer's su; prices on Whirlwind Model 16273. Phone: 815-385-0420 by BOB JUSTEN A doctor can give you a pill for almost any ailment. Aches, pains disorders can often be relieved but per manent cures rarely result from any pill. Pills at best, bridge a gap in time, from one time to the next. This fact of life is especially true for the thousands of shut-ins in nursing homes, hospitals, state hospitals and bedrooms in many private homes. They live alone and isolated - even while among other people. Theirs is a sad world. Many of these people need more than pills. They desperately need the concern of other people. They need to know they are not alone in their suffering. Cards, letters and flowers are fine - but nothing can match a friendly, cheerful personal visit. Through vistation the confined can often stren gthen their faith and spirit ... If you know some one who is ill, why not extend the kindness of a personal visit - soon? Why procrastinate?
