Four McHenry Scouts will receive the rank of Eagle Scout. They are Richard Vycital, Stanley Vycital, George Johnson and Raymond Hughes. Mr. Schoenholtz, McHenry Scoutmaster, will be the first man in the county to receive the Scoutmaster's key. A few relatives and friends surprised Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schmitt of Johnsburg on their fiftieth wedding anniversary Tuesday evening. Dr. and Mrs. W.E. Thomas, Payette, Idaho, have rented the Vales home on route 20 in McHenry and will move here June 5. Dr. Thomas is a dentist and will have his office in his home. Linus Newman has been appointed foreman to supervise the community relief garden, a four acre lot at the western limits of McHenry. Rural mail carriers, postmasters and post office employees of the two McHenry post offices gathered at the home of Clarence Martin in honor of D.E. Darleen, 3Vfe year old granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nick M. Justen, has returned to the home of her parents, the Elmer Justens, near Solon Mills from the Woodstock hospital where she was confined for five weeks with a fractured leg. The dedication of the new St. Joseph's church at Richmond will be May 29. Fr. Frank Miller, former assistant priest at St. Mary's church in McHenry, has been pastor of St. Joseph's since his appointment shortly after the death of Fr. Blake. May 20 the three eighth grade pupils of the Volo school passed their final tests with outstanding grades according to their teacher, Kathryn Conway. Bernice Lueder with an average grade equivalent of 11.1 was high, while Mary Lou Fisher and June Horner each made grade equivalent of 10.3. The Lincoln school building located three quarters of a mile east of Pistakee Bay will be sold at public auction May 29. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of May 28, 1964) Members of Company I of the McHenry Township Fire Protection District will sponsor their ninth annual dance on May 30 at the VFW clubhouse. In the past, the firemen have used the money raised from this dance to buy a public address system and uniforms. Proceeds from this year's event will continue to help furnish much needed equipment. With the deadline for entering the Fiesta Day queen contest last Saturday, there were twenty entries, one of the largest field of candidates in the history of the competition. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Deterding welcomed a baby girl May 23. The proud father is composing room foreman at the Plaindealer. Miss Frances Vycital and Mrs. Elsie Reiker left April 12 from O'Hare field for New York where 450 members of the O.E.S. from United States and Canada and the West Indies left in four groups for Paris where they boarded a train, for a tour of Europe in which they visited eleven countries. Richard G. Nowak, formerly of McHenry, has been appointed supervisor of the Abbott Laboratories, Los Angeles branch. Miss Lorraine Schultz, 30, died unexpectedly at her home in Kankakee, May 23. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. tJeorge Schultz of Lilymoor.
