Thursday May 30, 1974: I have four happy, busy, fairly well adjusted children seeking to find answers to some of life's many questions. Why do people put others in categories? Why can't people accept each other? Why can't people understand that all any of us are trying to do is 'make it'? Why am I constantly challenged to prove who I am or who my friends are? "Friends and acquaintances with whom I attended class, enjoyed extra curricular activities, a variety of theaters, museums, professional ahd amateur sports events, musicals and many other things, also had a place to go and have a coke, listen to records, dance and in general relax, talk, share hopes, dreams and fears. We had a good time, yet we learned to value, respect and otherwise appreciate the ideas and ideals of others our own age. We had many arguments about the importance of that which we deemed important; this is significant, because social, economical, racial, political, credo and or any other belief one has, is given recognition when, the freedom of being one's self accompanying the privilege of relating that which we are to our peers,, is prevelant. "A proudly diverse group of teen-agers have proven that they not only want, but have, can, and will work together toward a common goal, a Youth center for the benefit of the young people of this community. WOW! "The purpose of all this? To raise money themselves for a Youth center, for themselves. I say three cheers and many thanks to the terrific kids and the adults behind them. "I know my husband, and I'm sure most if not all men, would not think of going back to the office or factory on Saturday night or Sunday afternoon to meet friends for a little relaxation and fun. So it is with the kids. They, too, need a place away from school, church, and home just for themselves where they can be just that - themselves. "On the contrary, Mrs. Jirousek, I sincerely hope and pray that not only the city governing body but also the local merchants, service clubs, churches and any interested individuals will do everything to encourage and help these kids reach their goals. More power to them, they are McHenry's future. Colson's name could go down in history as the man who ended the Watergate investigation. If his testimony favors President Nixon this ridiculous investigation so costly to the taxpayers of our country, would end. Then all of the Congressmen, Senators and lawyers could go home with their pockets stuffed full of taxpayers' dollars. Future tax dollars could be used for more deserving purposes and our worthy servants of the people could spend more time getting our Ship of State back on an even keel. "There must be someone involved in this witch hunt who is more concerned with the more pressing problems Of our country. I sincerely hope that someone is Mr. Colson. If it is his intention to give testimony that will further prolong this investigation, then I hope he forever holds his peace. "There are many young men working, doing their jobs, and supporting their families today who would be lying in their graves if it were not for (Hie of the good things President Nixon has done.
