BOARD MEETING June 13 board meeting showed bills approved in the following amounts: MFT Fund $1,301.58 and the General Fund $1,396.59. A communication letter was received from the M.A. Degree To Patrick Pierce Illinois Department of Transportation to the effect that the Department of Waterways would make a field inspection as to the dredging of thecreelrfrom Broadway to the Fox River. Since the board meeting, the field investigation was made and from all inclinations the creek will be dredged by the State of Illinois Department of Waterways within the very near future. The complete project will take approximately two weeks to complete. This will correct the flooding of Broadway at Beach and Beach between Riverside and Carol avenues. It was also noted that President Bieritz will attend the meeting in Dixon as to Federal aid for road damages substained from flooding, being the same two location^ mention above. Clerk Lillegard read a letter from Commonwealth Edison as to the amount of electric allowed to the village for use in the village hall. The annual appropriation ordinance was passed and copies are available at the clerk's office for those wishing a copy. The ordinance was published in phamplet form under the direction of the Board of Trustees of the Village of McHenry Shores and is numbered ordinance No. 33. Road Commissioner Sam Zeimet noted that the rental of a road grader was available at this time and . requested permission to proceed. A meeting was set up with the Road Commissioner, his committee and the President to resolve the possibility of renting the grader to do the gravel areas of the roads. A variance was asked by Mr. Valaski to construct a fence on the corner of Bally and Gregg. After researching the zoning ordinance as to the designation of front, rear and side lot lines it was shelved until the village attorney could be consulted. The meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m. v PIER REPAIRS By this time, I'm sure that we have all noticed the repairs being made to the main Dier bv PUBLIC PULSE (Hie Plaindealer invites the public to use. this column as an expression of their views on subjects of general interest . in our community. MOSQUITO CONTROL "Editor: "Reference is made to the McHenry County Board of Health adopting a Mosquito Abatement policy as reported in the June 13, 1974, Citizens newspaper. "It appears that the Board of Health is not aware of its duties and functions for which they were appointed. Spraying for mosquito control is a municipal or township function and not that of the Board of Health. The statements (1) that community the few men who have given unselfishly of their timer the repairs are still continuing and additional help will be needed for Saturday to help complete the project. It would seem to me, that of the 249 men in the village we would not have to ask a second time for help. However, we are because it takes more than just six men to do the complete job and do it properly. I find it very hard to believe that only six families in the village use the Dier. It would seem that if you have used it or plan on using it you would want to help fix jt to make it safe. Before this project was approved the discussion was to completely dismantel the pier and have no facility at all. It's hard to appreciate what you have until it's no longer there. It would seem fair to say that those who help on the repairs would be first in line for a pier space for their boats. You can't expect someone else to work for your enjoyment. Those who are interested in working call Don Henderlong 385-3214 or just show up at the pier Saturday morning and be ready to work. spraying for adult mosquito control should only be done during an endemic or epidemic situation when rapid reduction of the mosquito population would be necessary to arrest the transmission of disease by die mosquitoes and (2) that localized and selective spraying should only be done when the Board of Health finds it to be warranted, are ridiculous. "To begin With, there has not been and probably never will be a disease epidemic in McHenry, county from mosquitoes. There has been no epidemic in Cook, Lake and other surrounding counties where mosquito spraying has been done for many years (up to 35 years). A simple inquiry would have developed the information that companies doing mosquito spraying have the knowledge and experience not to spray for adult mosquitoes but spray when a flight of mosquitoes is going to begin, that mosquitoes do not fly a distance greater than 5 miles, and they will determine breeding sites which are sprayed including sewers at street manholes, have traps for counting mosquitoes, etc. "It would be a waste of taxpayer's money to set up a bureaucracy to make a survey of all of McHenry county to locate breeding sites for mosquitoes and to monitor such sites, etc. We in McHenry do not need the Board of Health to advise us if spraying is warranted - we know we will have mosquitoes if spraying is PATRICK E.
