John and Sharon's infant daughter received the sacrament of Baptism at St. Mary's church with Father Kulak officiating and godmother Donna DeSilva and godfather Don Gacek looking on. The baby was beautifully dressed in a lovely christening outfit given to her by her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert DeSilva, who were guests at the christening. FUN THREE DAY TRIP Dick and Bev Walinski. packed their camper recently and drove to Missouri for a two day visit last week. One sunny weekend recently the Kopsells and the Gendes enjoyed themselves camping out in the Gende backyard! On Friday night they were joined by their friends and ~ neighbors Homer and Melinda Bassett and their daughters, Gary and Jeannie Busse, Patt and Judy Patterson and their children, Larry and Joanie Freund and their family, an Terry and Trudy Harrison. A Friday night fish fry was enjoyed thanks to David and Davie Gende and Jim Kopsell and his children Wesley and Vicky, who caught the fish that the moms, Gladys and Millie, fried on the grill. Gary Busse entertained the "campers" by singing and playing his guitar. Everyone joined in on the singing and had a fun time. The following night the guests who sat around the campfire with Dave and Millie Gende and Gladys and Jim Kopsell were Mary Beth Gende, Frank and Betty Gende, Jim Kujak and family and Denny and Sharon Aubin and their family. Cal Skinner, Jr. (R-33rd district) of his attempt to find a way to improve the non- dedicated subdivision roads in his area. "We made an arrangement with representatives of Chicago who have miles of underimproved subdivision streets originally paved by the W.P.A. We gave them and all municipalities in the state about $6.3 million for the exclusive use of improving non- arterial streets and alleys and they gave us the right to use the extra money on the non- dedicated subdivision streets, if the township officials want to," Skinner explained. While on the surface, it may appear to some that the state highway program would suffer as a result, Skinner explained that a concerted effort had been made by the House Appropriations committee to eliminate non-highway related road expenditures. Skinner pointed out that about $8 million that had usually been diverted from State Motor Fuel Tax funds to pay for the Illinois Supreme court would now come from the state's general fund. Another $9 million or so that had been used to support the Secretary of State's office will also come from the general fund in the future. "We put more money into the state road fund than we took out for local road purposes." The first term representative emphasized that the permission that is being given to township officials is a clear attempt to allow townships to spend federal revenue sharing money on substandard roads. He also emphasized that he thought township officials would exercise the power being given them responsibly. "I don't really expect any township to take action until they have conferred with all potential * subdivision groups and determined what property owner contribution will be required. There is obviously just so much money and that amount of money is not enough to fix every substandard street in every unincorporated subdivision," he said. Skinner also predicted Senate passage. "The combination of support that we have put together in the House should be reflected in the Senate. We have three co- sponsors: Jack Schaffer, Ed Scholl (two Republicans) and Thomas Hynes (a Chicago Democrat). "The real job will be getting the Governor to sign this good bill." Opportunity For Health Care Service Provided A program to provide an opportunity for employment in new areas of health care service has been developed by Memorial Hospital for McHenry County, with training classes scheduled to being Monday, June 24, Bert Hanson, administrator, has announced. The classes for persons aspiring for positions in the relatively new job of ward clerk will provide a chance to learn duties and qualify for the work, and applicants will enable the registered nurse personnel to concentrate their professional skills at the patient's bedside, said Hanson. The classes will be from June 24 through June 27 and will be conducted from 9 a.m. until noon. Applicants should contact the hospital to file an application for the class. Hanson said that acceptance into the class does not guarantee employment. The program is for high school graduating seniors and also for adult men and women seeking employment in the health care field. Ward clerks will be responsible to the nurse in charge of the unit and will provide many clerical services to assist the nursing staff in improved patient care. Hanson said applicants must be high school graduates with an ability to work under stress and to remain calm and work with others. On-the-job-training is provided to those who qualify for the ward clerk position. DISCLOSURE BILL A strong campaign disclosure bill co-sponsored by Senator Jack Schaffer, R-Cary, and supported by Republican leaders in the Illinois senate was passed June 13. The law requiring disclosure of all campaign contributions and expenditures in excess of $100 now goes to the House of R e p r e s e n t a t i v e s f o r consideration. The House has already passed a weaker bill requiring receipts and expenses exceeding $250 be publicly reported.
